US Set To Equip Nigeria In Fight Against Boko Haram

The US assistant secretary of state for African affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, and commander US Africa command (USAAFRICOM), David Rodriguez, disclosed this on Thursday during a joint online press conference.

President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to be at the White House later this month to have discussions with the American government.

“Part of that discussion will be how we can provide the equipment and support that Nigerians require. We will have discussion on what we can do to continue to assist Nigeria in the fight against Boko Haram.” She said.

The US assistant secretary of state for African affairs, added that the American government will also prepare Nigerian military on how to support communities.

Thomas-Greenfield also noted that the rescue of the abducted Chibok girls was high priority for the US government.

She commended President Buhari and his wife for relating with the families of the kidnapped Chibok girls and letting them know they have not been forgotten.

Rodriguez on his part, said the US government has been sharing intelligence with the Nigerian government on Chibok girls and other Boko Haram captives.

Meanwhile fears and mixed reactions have trailed President Buhari’s scheduled visit to the United States President, Barack Obama since the legalisation of same sex marriage in the US.
