Finally!!! Nigerian Doctors Suspend Strike

The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) have suspended their seven week old strike. The good news was announced today Sunday 24 via the NMA’s official Twitter handle @nmanigeria.

“BREAKING!!! NMA rose from an Emergency Delegates Meeting and decided that the #NMAStrike be suspended with ALL Doctors resuming duties ISQ.
“This means that NO Doctor in the country would be victimised in whatever form as a result of participation in the #NMAStrike. Details later”

It was gathered that a press conference to announce the suspension of the strike is to be addressed later today (Sunday), August 24. Continue...


It would be recalled that following the refusal of the NMA to call off the strike especially in the wake of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in Lagos State, President Goodluck Jonathan approved the sack of all resident doctors in the country and suspended residency training in all federal hospitals. Details of the agreement with the government is not yet clear at the time of publishing this report.
