2015 Elections: Types Of Ballot Boxes To Be Used (SEE PHOTOS)

ADVERT
The long awaited 2015 Presidential election will be holding in two day’s time. This year, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will be using color coded ballot boxes for the March 28 Presidential elections and April 11 governorship elections.

This is to encourage promote free, fair and credible elections in the country.

The ballot box with red lid is for the President, while the one with black lid is for Senate. The green one is for House of Representatives.

Nigerians will have to place their ballot papers which has their choice candidate in the correct ballot box. Ballot papers placed in the incorrect ballot box will be invalid. This is to encourage a more efficient vote counting process and also discourage rigging.

The INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, while speaking at the National Stakeholders’ Summit on the 2015 general election in Abuja on Tuesday, March 24, had stated that ballot papers in the wrong boxes would be sorted and put in the right boxes, but some political parties present at the event opposed the idea on the grounds that it was against their agreement with INEC.

This year’s ballot box is quite different from the transparent and collapsible ballot ones used by the electoral body in conducting the 2011 elections in the country.

This year’s election, INEC introduced some innovations like the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), which will check the tendency by unscrupulous persons to engage in multiple voting during elections and the use of card readers.

This is the time when Nigerians have to come together and chose who they want to rule them for the next four years. It is not a time for violence as you won’t achieve anything through violence.
