Northern Youths Beg Buhari Not To Sack Arase

A group of Northern youths under the aegis of North-East Youth Peace Development Empowerment Initiative (NYPDEI) has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari not to sack the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase, considering his excellent performance in office since April this year.

The National President, NYPDEI, Alhaji Kyari Abubakar made the appeal, yesterday, while reacting to recent publications in the media that President Muhammadu Buhari may review some appointments made by former President Goodluck Jonathan after the presidential elections in March this year. Solomon Arase was appointed IGP by President Jonathan in May, after the sack of Suileman Abba.

Abubakar stated that though Arase was not appointed by President Buhari, the IGP has proved that he is capable of doing the job judging by his performance in the past six months.

“Though it is true that Arase was appointed during President Jonathan’s last days in office, he has demonstrated competence in handling the security situation of the country. The security situation of the country under Arase has improved tremendously which the president must consider before making any decision.

“There is no need to replace a competent hand like Arase, who has been working tirelessly to ensure total security of the country,” he said.

He further stated that the country has witnessed a lot of improvement in security since the past six months, adding that the people of North East believe the security of the region would be better with Arase as IGP.

“While it is necessary for President Buhari to review some of the last day appointments of former President, President Buhari should critically assess the performance of Arase in the last six months as IGP before taking any decision on him,” he said.

Dogara Has Declared War Against Buhari, APC – Gbajabiamila’s Loyalists

A group of federal lawmakers from the House of Representatives elected on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday said that the composition of the leadership of House committees shared equally between the party and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) by Speaker Yakubu Dogora was a declaration of war against the presidency and the party.

The lawmakers operating under the aegis of “APC House Loyal Members”, stated that it was against the democratic principle to share committees equally with the opposition.

Briefing Journalists at the end of a closed door meeting with the members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party at the national secretariat in Abuja, spokesperson of the group, Hon. Musa Saraki Adar from Sokoto State said that Dogara was causing a division among the lawmakers, insisting that he must reverse the order.

Rwanda Accuses Burundi Leaders Of ‘Killing Own People’

Rwanda’s president has accused Burundi’s leaders of killing their own people as human-rights activists accuse security forces of killing 11 people over the weekend. Paul Kagame’s comments could cause tensions between the neighbouring countries to rise. Aljazeera reports:

He made them after Burundi’s president, Pierre Nkurunziza, repeatedly accused Rwanda of precipitating violence and instability in Burundi.  “Are these leaders or what who kill their own people from morning to evening, dump them on the street and in streams and then stand up and start accusing Rwanda?” Kagame said in a speech that was released on Sunday.

Activists said about 200 people have been killed in Burundi since April when Nkurunziza announced his intention to seek a third term, which his critics said was unconstitutional. Nkurunziza, however, went on to win an election boycotted by the opposition in July. The latest violence occurred on Saturday night in Bujumbura when nine people were executed at a bar, human rights groups said.

It was not clear who the assailants were, witnesses said, but the killings occurred as a deadline given by Nkurunziza for “criminals” to surrender illegal firearms or be treated as enemies of state approached.

Australia Migrants: ‘Disturbance’ At Christmas Island Detention Centre

Inmates have lit fires at Australia’s Christmas Island detention centre in a “major disturbance”, says government officials. The unrest was sparked by the death of a detainee who had escaped the camp. The situation was “tense” for a while, the department said, but was now calm.

Negotiations were continuing with those detainees protesting to resolve the situation “peacefully and as soon as possible”, the department said in a statement. The perimeter remains secure and patrols are continuing, it said. Christmas Island is a remote outpost located 2,650km (1,650 miles) north-west of Perth and 380km south of Java in Indonesia.

It is part of Australia’s network of offshore processing centres for irregular migrants who arrive by boat, and also houses New Zealanders facing deportation from Australia. The Department of Immigration said the unrest started when a group of Iranian inmates staged a protest about the death of an Iranian Kurd, Fazel Chegeni. Mr Chegeni had escaped from the facility on Saturday. His body was found at the bottom of a cliff on Sunday.

Egypt Military Arrests Journalist In ‘Blow For Freedom’

The Egyptian army has arrested a prominent journalist and human rights advocate, prompting condemnation by human rights groups.

Military intelligence arrested Hossam Bahgat, an investigative journalist and contributor at the local Mada Masr news outlet, on Sunday morning after delivering a summons to his home on Thursday. According to Mada Masr, Bahgat was chargedwith “publishing false news that harms national interests and disseminating information that disturbs public peace”. Hours later, Bahgat was referred to a military court. He was questioned over an article he published in October about what he called the secret military trial of 26 army officers reportedly plotting a coup.

In a statement published on Sunday night, Amnesty International said Bahgat’s arrest is part of the Egyptian authorities’ “ferocious onslaught against independent journalism and civil society”.

Philip Luther, director of Amnesty’s Middle East and North Africa programme, slammed the move as “yet another nail in the coffin for the freedom of expression in Egypt”.

Sierra Leone Is Ebola Free But A Legacy Of Fear Remains

Twenty-nine-year-old Song strolls through the streets of Sierra Leone’s capital, Freetown, as loud music blares out from the stalls of street vendors.  “The war is over,” he says. “We’ve been liberated.” After 42 days with no new cases, the World Health Organization on Saturday officially declared Sierra Leone free from Ebola.  “This time last year we were putting thousands of people in body bags, people were scared, unable to go out. Today we are free,” he explains.

I’m in Freetown this week with WaterAid, which has been working in hygiene promotion and assisting on crucial water and sanitation projects in Liberia and Sierra Leone as these countries try to rebuild their health systems after the Ebola crisis. Here in chaotic Freetown, reminders of this deadly virus linger everywhere. Roadside billboards remind residents to stay vigilant, and guards at security checkpoints are armed with thermometers and bottles of hand sanitiser.

Just outside of Freetown, in the suburb of Waterloo, lies Ebola’s Ground Zero – a cemetery filled with those who have died from the virus. The grave of a 99-year-old woman sits beside that of a three-year-old boy – a stark reminder that this deadly virus did not discriminate.  In the distance, another burial team makes its way down the bumpy dirt track. A man wearing protective gear jumps out. “We have four bodies in here, two of them children,” he shouts.

Vivica Fox Insinuates Former Boyfriend, 50 Cent Is Gay

Veteran Hollywood actress, Vivica Fox recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live on the night of Sunday 8th of November with Andy Cohen.

The show saw Cohen make reference to some comments that 50 Cent made about the show Empire, Heavy reports.

Fox then “insinuated” that 50 Cent might have a gay side, saying, it was a case of ‘pot calling a kettle black’

and then saying,“He just seems like he’s just got something that’s not so clear.”

Fox also said 50 Cent looked like a booty snatcher on the cover of magazine Vibe, which was actually XXL Magazine.

Cohen’s translation was that when someone protests too much they’re basically hiding something.

And, when asked how she’ll react to the backlash she’ll receive from implying that 50 Cent may be gay, Fox said she doesn’t think there will be much backlash because she speaks the truth.

In an earlier interview with Madam Noire, Fox had opened up about her romantic relationship with 50 Cent, explaining:

“Even though he is absolutely the love of my life, dating 50 Cent was difficult. I really, really cared for him. I loved him very much and I always will, but he just wasn’t right for me. And that’s hard when you really, really love a person in your heart and you want to be with them, but you finally have to say, ‘He’s just not right for me.’ I wish him the best. He is amazing, and baby, he fine, but to just know that if you love someone, to just know that they’re not right for you. Sometimes love ain’t always right. The heart wants what it wants, but sometimes it’s just not right.”

Myanmar Opposition Claims Big Gains In Election

Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s party is claiming gains in Myanmar’s parliamentary election, with supporters already celebrating an anticipated landslide victory. At least 2,000 people braved the afternoon downpour on Monday in the commercial capital, Yangon, as they awaited the announcement of the results and a possible speech by the democracy icon.

Supporters waved the red flag of the Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) party while singing along the campaign theme song, shouting “NLD, we will win.” They also cheered when the election commission announced wins for NLD candidates in a news conference which played live on a widescreen TV. “I’m very excited. NLD won in my township of Kyi Myin Dine,” said Daw Khin Myo Sett, 39, who voted for the first time.

“I hope that they will improve education as well as healthcare and give my children a better life.”  The country’s first openly contested election in decades saw an estimated 80 percent voter turnout. The NLD had won about 70 percent of the votes counted by midday Monday, party spokesman Win Htein said.  The nation breathed a collective sigh of relief as polling closed on Sunday, with no major incidents of violence or voter irregularity reported.

The opposition NLD party, however, filed an official complaint before the election commission about violations of voting regulations.

Late Kefee’s Husband – “I Miss Her So Much”

Husband to deceased gospel singer Kefee, Teddy Don-Momoh has expressed how much he misses his wife.

In an interview with Punch today (November 8), he spoke about how much he misses her, how he is coping with her and remarrying.

Teddy Don-Momoh who is an on-air-personality with Star FM said he gets sad when he sees books on his wife’s side of the bed.

“I miss her so much. Waking up in the morning and knowing she was still there were some of the memories I cherished. Today, I wake up and find books lying in her place. It is so sad” he said.

“Life has got to move on. I am still trying to get a grip of myself. She was the best thing that actually happened to me but she just disappeared in a flash. I am happy that she is resting in God’s bosom. Although she is not here with me today, we both planned to be together forever. But, I cannot question God” Teddy Don-Momoh said about coping with her loss.

Later in the interview the Star FM OAP said it’s all in God’s hands if he will remarry.

Kefee passed away on June 12, 2014 after having a pre-eclampsia-pregnancy.

Former Senate leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba, who resigned from PDP on September 17th, has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ndoma-Egba, who represented Cross River Central in the seventh Senate, was at the APC secretariat in Cross River state today where he formally joined the party. While speaking to some of the party chieftains, Ndoma-Egba said

“I came to reciprocate the various courtesy calls paid to me by chapter chairmen of the APC from the ward level to the national body of the party and to tell you that I want to formally join the APC family.
For a long time, it was said that Cross River State was a one party state. For a long time it was, but it is no longer tenable today, because the action of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) created a large pool of IDPs (Internally Displaced Politicians) who still have political life in them and must continue in politics. So the IDPs must find a platform to carry on with their politics. As we continue consultations with you, I want to assure you that we are aware the party has a constitution and we must be bound by it. We want to come to the party with values of integrity, fair competition and a level playing ground. Fortunately PDP has given a template of what should not be done, that impunity is not sustainable. They have had to pay a high price for impunity. Whether they have learnt lessons from their impunity is what I don’t know,” he said.

Biafra Protests: Southeast Governors, Ohanaeze To Meet In Owerri – Okorocha

Southeast Governors and the leadership of the pan Igbo socio-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, will converge on Owerri, Imo State, this weekend at the instance of the Imo state Governor, Rochas Okorocha, to find a lasting solution to the escalating agitation by separatist groups in the zone.

Okorocha, who had earlier denounced the activities of the pro-Biafra groups on behalf of the Southeast Governors and Igbo leaders, said the governors and leaders in the zone could no longer sit and watch the situation degenerate further, adding that the Igbo as a people cannot afford to have another Boko Haram in the region.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, the governor noted that the pockets of protests across the zone and in other neighbouring states, staged by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), is highly embarrassing, disturbing and counter-productive.

He said, “The pro-Biafra protests could not be in the interest of the Southeast people but are only sending wrong signals to the rest of Nigerians.  And it has become increasingly necessary for the governors in the zone, Ohaneze leaders and other stakeholders in the area to meet, to call a spade, a spade.

“It is also expected that at the end of the Owerri meeting, the governors and other leaders will take a common position and will also invite the leaders of the pro-Biafra groups for a meeting, to let them know the socio-economic and political implications of their activities including their demand for sovereignty in a united Nigeria”.
