President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan extends heartfelt commiserations to the Government and people of Yobe state on the death of many students in a bomb attack on Potiskum earlier today.

President Jonathan also conveys his deepest sympathies to all parents who lost their beloved children in the heinous attack on the Government Science Secondary School which appears to have been carried out by a suicide bomber.

The President condemns the dastardly murder of the students on their school’s assembly ground as they prepared to begin another week of study in pursuit of a better life for themselves and their families.

Police probe SA President, Zuma over home spending

South African police are investigating President Jacob Zuma over a $23 million taxpayer-funded refurbishment at his rural homestead, according to parliamentary papers. In a written response to lawmakers published Monday, police confirmed that an investigation into spending at the property “has been initiated”.

Zuma, who was reelected in May, has insisted that he had no knowledge of the work, including the construction of a swimming pool, private clinic and amphitheatre.

His government insists all the refurbishments at the homestead in Nkandla in the southeastern province of KwaZulu Natal were security related.

The issue has become a lightning rod for criticism of Zuma’s administration, which is seen by many South Africans as tolerant of corruption and incompetence.

Police To Shut Down Abuja For President Jonathan's Declaration Tomorrow; get ready for heavy traffic

The Nigeria police plans to shut down most parts of Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, on Tuesday for President Goodluck Jonathan’s declaration of his intention to seek reelection. So, get ready for heavy traffic

All roads around Eagle Square, the venue of the president’s declaration, would be closed down from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow 11th November, 2014.

“Members of the public are advised to use alternative routes, as vehicular traffic will be diverted from most of the roads leading in and out of Eagle Square Central Business District, Abuja between 0500 a.m. and 0800 p.m. of Tuesday, 11th November, 2014.

A bomb blast which rock Government Science Technical College, Potiskum today claimed the lives of 47 children and injured 97. Musa Ibrahim Yahaya, 17-year-old student at the school who was being treated at the hospital for head wounds told AP

"We were waiting for the principal to address us, around 7:30 a.m., when we heard a deafening sound and I was blown off my feet, people started screaming and running, I saw blood all over my body."

AP reported that most of the bodies taken to the hospital were between the ages of 11 and 20, according to a morgue attendant.

Nigeria Military Helicopter Crashes in Adamawa

A Nigerian military helicopter has reportedly crashed today in Adamawa State. The aircraft was reportedly on a surveillance mission in Damare around the Girei Local Government Area of the state when the incident occurred.

A Yola-based journalist told Premium Times that there were arms and ammunition on the helicopter, and that some foreigners were on board. “Immediately after the crash, soldiers were drafted to the scene to cordon off the scene,” he said.

The crash site is reportedly close to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) temporary camp, that is currently serving as a base for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the state. The military is yet to issue an official confirmation as regards the incident.

Nuhu Ribadu's Brother Kidnapped By Unknown Gunmen

Gunmen on Sunday kidnapped Mallam Sani Ribadu, a junior brother of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. The younger Ribadu was kidnapped on his farm along Fufore, about 15kilometres to Yola.

It was learnt that he went to his farm on Sunday evening for a “routine tendering of his crops” when the gunmen stormed the place and took him to an unknown destination. It was unclear if the abduction was politically motivated or by some insurgents on the rampage in the state. But there was suspicion of political motives last night because Sani was rated as “central to the campaign coordination of the ex-EFCC chairman.”

Lagos Police arrest two teenage boys for homosexual act

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two teenage boys, Gideon Harrison, 19, and Ifeanyi Ezeorji, 14, for allegedly having se*x with each other in the Ikotun area of Lagos.

According to Punch, The boys were arrested on October 23 by the Ikotun Police Division after they allegedly had se*x with each other through the anus, an act known as sodomy.

The latter is the case. According to the report, a man named Toheeb Adekunle, who stays on Muka Street, Ijegun Road and works inside the Ikotun Motor Park, claimed he caught the two boys in the act. He then reported the matter to the police, who then picked up the boys. The boys are now at the State Criminal Investigations Department, Yaba. The police is planning to charge them to court and the crime carries about 7 to 14 years.

Many Students Killed As Bomb Rocks Science High School In Yobe State

Suicide bomber sent by Boko Haram sect has killed several students at the Government Comprehensive Secondary Science School in Pokistum, Yobe state. A military officer in Damaturu confirmed to SaharaReporters by telephone, according to him, a bomb exploded during a daily morning assembly with hundreds of students in attendance.

The military source said over 30 bodies of students and teachers lay in the assembly area with many others sustaining injuries. Other schools in the area have been closed down.

What! BBC Calls Bishop David Oyedpo’s Winners Chapel “Witchcraft Church”

A Nigerian church accused of linking poor discipline to witchcraft wants to open an independent school in Kent. Winners’ Chapel International, which is currently under investigation by the Charity Commission, wants to open the school at its Dartford site.

Human rights campaigners and the National Secular Society are urging the government to turn down the school bid. The church, whose leader Bishop David Oyedpo was filmed accusing a woman of being a witch, declined an interview.

The organisation, which has its headquarters in Nigeria, is known as Living Faith Church Worldwide and also Winners’ Chapel International (WCI). Bishop Oyedepo, its leader in Nigeria, has been shown on YouTube slapping a woman and accusing her of being a witch.

"I saw hell" - Freed Boko Haram suspect narrates experience After 3 years in military detention

A 300 level chemistry undergraduate at the University of Maiduguri, Salisu Adamu, claims to have been illegally arrested, detained and experienced an ‘unbearable situation’ for more than three years in the hands of Nigeria’s military. Adamu, a native of Biu local government area of Borno state, said he was taken from his house by the military who told him ‘not to worry, that it was just questions and answers’.

After spending over three years in detention, he was freed last week, among 39 indigenes of Borno State and three foreigners who were handed over to the Borno State government by the military, after finding out they had no affiliations with Boko Haram.

Adamu says his experience in detention was unbearable and that he was lucky to be alive, after witnessing the death of many other detainees like himself. He says his priority after being released, is to go back to school and bag his degree.

Boko Haram preaches to residents of captured town in new video

According to PM News:

It was not possible to tell whether the footage was staged for propaganda purposes, especially scenes of residents cheering Islamist fighters. The message appeared to be aimed at reinforcing Shekau’s claim that he has created a caliphate within Nigeria.

In the 44-minute video, Boko Haram voices support for other so-called caliphates, including the one proclaimed in Iraq and Syria by the Islamic State (IS) group.
