Nigerian Army Releases 42 Boko Haram Suspects

The Nigerian Army has freed 42 Boko Haram suspects. According to The Nation, the suspects were freed by authorities of 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Maiduguri and handed over to Governor Kashim Shettima. The suspects were also given N100, 000 to enable them settle down in the society. Col Sani Usman, Deputy Director of the Army Public Relations has revealed that the suspects were released because it has been found that they had no affiliations with the infamous Islamist terrorist group.

“Out of the 42 suspects cleared by the military this month, three are from the neighboring countries of Burkina Faso, Chad and Cameroon,” he said, while presenting the freed suspects at the Government House.

It was gathered that most of the released suspects are students, traders, carpenters, drivers and panel beaters. While there were elderly people among them, the group was mainly made up of persons between the ages of 18 and 30.

Popular Nollywood Yoruba actress Mercy Aigbe Gentry's husband, Lanre Gentry has been arrested again over a fraud case filed against him by Lagos-based Human Rights Lawyer Festus Keyamo for allegedly duping a lady of her hard-earned money. Though full details is still sketchy, but a warrant for his arrest was secured yesterday.

Festus Keyamo has vowed to bring Larry Gentry to book by all means for his incessant fraudulent activities. This is not the first time Lanre Gentry will be arrested. Back in 2012, he was arrested by the EFCC and taken to Abuja for investigation over a scam involving over 20 million naira.

Lanre Gentry is the owner of a popular hotel called Laveronique located at 14 Oregunwa Street in Oregun area of Ikeja Lagos. According to story making rounds in the entertainment industry, the Hotelier has spent all his fortune to maintain the lavish lifestyle of his star wife, Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe.

Eh! MTN Launches N10 Recharge Card Today

Subscribers to the telecommunications service provider, MTN Nigeria will, as from Friday (today), have the opportunity to recharge their phones for as low as N10. The Chief Marketing Officer of MTN, Bayo Adekanmbi, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.

According to Adekambi, the initiative, to be launched in Kano, was to ensure that no Nigerian was shut out of the values that the network offers.

“Apart from making it possible for customers to purchase airtime at the lowest rates, it also offers opportunities for small scale entrepreneurs to sell low-unit portion packs of recharge cards as a new revenue stream. Again, everyday people such as Maishayi, neighbourhood stalls, housewives, students, etc would also benefit immensely from this proposition.

Tragic Fire Outbreak: Many Feared Dead In Lagos NNPC Pipeline Explosion

Many suspected pipeline vandals yesterday when fire gutted at a petroleum pipeline belonging to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, at Ijedodo, Lagos.

According to sources, the vandals had besieged the place around 6pm and were said to be scooping petroleum product into jerry cans when an argument ensued between some of them and one of them ignited the fire that caused the massive explosion.

The incident was confirmed by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, but they refused to disclose the number of casualties.

I Can't Resign Because Of Boko Haram - Jonathan Tells APC

The Presidency has said there is no part of the world where the President resigns during an ongoing war. It therefore challenged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to tell Nigerians where such has ever happened.

This was the Presidency’s reaction to the demand by the APC leadership, including its National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, that President Goodluck Jonathan should resign due to the on-going war the members of the Boko Haram are waging on Nigeria, saying Jonathan is incompetent.
