Just In! Four Chibok Girls have Escaped From Boko Haram

According to TheTimesUK, the four, all aged between 16 and 18, had been told that if they criticised Boko Haram, their families would be killed. They were helped to escape by a teenage boy, also a
prisoner, who managed to get them out of the camp, according to Stephen Davis, a British-Australian negotiator who had tried to bargain with the extremist Islamic group for the schoolgirls’ freedom.
The girls, guided by the setting sun, walked west for three weeks, finally arriving in a Nigerian village, starving and traumatised.
“They were amazing — to first escape and then walk for weeks,” Davis told The Times of London. “They are the only ones that have escaped from a Boko Haram camp.”
Davis said the girls had been told that if they fled Boko Haram, their families would be killed.

See How Nigerian Prisoners Are Maltreated In Ghana, Worse Than Hell

My name is Emmanuel Emeka, a prisoner in Ankaful maximum security prison, Cape Coast, Ghana. I’m serving a jail-term of 130yrs imprisonment and I’m presently in my 8th year. We appeal to the Nigerian government to please come to our aid. The condition here has been so unbearable for (we) Nigerian prisoners in Ghana. We need to reconnect with our families. The Ghanaian police are fond of arresting innocent Nigerians, giving them high sentence of 50yrs 70yrs 100yrs 150yrs to 200yrs.

Most of us have spent 8yrs 10yrs 15yrs 17yrs 20yrs inside prison and some have died inside the prison without completing their jail-term. Our families are in the dark, they really don’t know what we are facing. We’ve spent a lot of money trying to appeal in court, but all is to no avail. Within my 8years in prison, I have witnessed over 100 deaths of Nigerian citizen in the Ghana prison and most of their families are not even aware. They still keep the hope of their return without knowing they are dead and buried with no rites.
We appeal to the government of Nigeria to please act on our behalf so we won’t continue to perish in this peril.

Mark Zuckerberg Donates $25 Million to CDC to help Fight Ebola

Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla, are donating $25 million to the Centers for Disease Control Foundation to help in the fight against Ebola. According to his Facebook page:
Priscilla and I are donating $25 million to the Centers for Disease Control Foundation to help fight Ebola.

The Ebola epidemic is at a critical turning point. It has infected 8,400 people so far, but it is spreading very quickly and projections suggest it could infect 1 million people or more over the next several months if not addressed.

We need to get Ebola under control in the near term so that it doesn’t spread further and become a long term global health crisis that we end up fighting for decades at large scale, like HIV or polio.

Mum’s refusal to have her 5yr old daughter circumcised tears families apart

Two families, the royal family of Olaoye in Ushi-Ekiti and the Oyenekan family are at loggerheads over the circumcision of a 5-year-old girl, Sunnewsonline reports. The once rosy relationship between both families has now turned sour following a disagreement over the circumcision of their 5-year-old daughter.

Miss Olufunke Oyenekan, mother of the 5yr old girl and fiancee to Emmanuel Olaoye, son of the Olaoyes, a royal family in Ushi-Ekiti, Ekiti State, had disagreed with the Olaoyes over their decision to perform the traditional circumcision rites on her daughter.

The woman, sensing that her husband’s family wanted to perform the rites by all means, fled with her child from the Olaoye’s family house in Ushi Ekiti in 2012 and her whereabouts has since remain unknown.
