Ebola: First Consultant Hospital indicts Liberian Ambassador

First Consultants Medical Centre, the Lagos hospital where the man who brought Ebola to Nigeria, late Liberian Patrick Sawyer died, has indicted the Liberian Ambassador to Nigeria for his involvement in the case, saying he put the hospital under pressure to release Sawyer against the wish of its management, Vanguard reports.

Speaking to newsmen yesterday, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Benjamin Ohiaeri, said:

"The ambassador said if we CONTINUED to keep him (Sawyer), it would be tantamount to kidnap and abuse of human right. He said if we did not release him, we would be subjecting our hospital to international diplomatic row and we should not rule out the possibility of law suit.”

Female youth corper named Odachi Abah (picture above), who was allegedly assaulted by a female police officer narrated her ordeal.

“On the 8th of October 2014 I got assaulted by a Policewoman. This is what happened. On my way home from Oshodi-Isolo LGA, Lagos State, Nigeria with a friend Maduka Benson after my NYSC clearance our vehicle (Honda accord) entered a hole which pulled part of the car bumper. The policewoman standing in front controlling the traffic kept shouting at us. And so Maduka who was driving, tried to explain to her that the car bumper was stuck, but she insisted that we should get out of the way.

A man told my friend not to move, warning that if he did, the entire bumper would be ripped from the car. He then crossed over to our side of the road, and helped us fix the bumper so we could move on.

Why Nigerian military has difficulty getting arms from America -U.S govt.

The American government has given insight into why the Nigerian military is facing difficulty procuring arms from the United States to combat the extremist Boko Haram sect wreaking havoc in Nigeria’s North East region.

According to the American Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, He said cases of human rights abuses by Nigerian troops in the North-East in the past years have stood out as a sore thumb as the United States considers the Nigerian military’s request for arms.

With West Africa, and indeed the rest of the world, still reeling from the deaths brought about by the Ebola virus, the recent death of a Ugandan hospital technician of another deadly viral disease, Marburg Haemorrhagic Fever (MHF), has brought fresh fears, Tribune Newspaper reports.

Uganda’s Ministry of Health disclosed that a total of 99 people who had been in contact with the victim had been moved to quarantine. These contacts are being monitored for signs and symptoms of the disease after tests confirmed that the 30-year-old man who worked as a radiographer in a Kampala hospital died of the disease. The man was said to have had a headache, abdominal pains, diarrhoea and vomited blood before he died.

Marburg virus was first identified in 1967, after simultaneous outbreaks in Marburg (from which the disease takes its name) and Frankfurt both in Germany, Belgrade, Serbia and Yugoslavia. It was later traced back to monkeys imported from Uganda for laboratory work. Since then, the virus has appeared sporadically, with just a dozen outbreaks on record. The most recent outbreak, also in Uganda, in 2012, killed four out of 15 patients, according to the United States of America’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Update On The Bird That Turned Into A Woman (Photos)

According to eyewitnesses at the scene of the incident in Lagos, the bird collided with an electric wire while going for an operation and fell down, after which it changed into this middle aged woman. It was both a scary and a dramatic scene. Many people could not stand to look at the strange woman. She was later taken away by men of the Nigeria police while in near-unconscious state. Boko Haram Releases Wife Of Cameroonian Deputy Prime Minister, 10 Chinese Workers

Boko Haram militants have released the wife of Cameroonian Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali, ten Chinese workers and district heads kidnapped a few months ago.

The kidnap victims were released today after intense tripartite negotiations involving Cameroon, Chinese interests, and representatives of the Islamist group. A source in Cameroon disclosed that a hefty but undisclosed ransom was paid to the Islamist militants.

According to SaharaReporters, Mrs. Ali, who was abducted by the militants in July, had arrived in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon, following her release. Our Cameroonian sources also disclosed that Boko Haram militants also released at least 10 Chinese workers abducted in Cameroon as well as a district head and his children.

Archbishop of Jos defends gays, asks Nigerian Government to stop punishing them

Speaking with the Vatican's weekly publication, The Tablet, on Wednesday October 8th, Archbishop Kaigama said the catholic church does not support the criminalizing of people due to their different sexual orientation and urged the federal government to stop punishing gay people.

"We are not supporting the criminalization of people with different sexual orientations. We would defend any person with homosexual orientation who is being harassed, who is being imprisoned, who is being punished. The federal government may want to punish them, we don't. In fact, we will tell the government to stop punishing those with different orientations" he said

Uyo Stadium To Host Nigeria Vs South Africa 2015 AFCON Qualifier

Newly constructed ultra modern 30,000 capacity stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State will host the Afcon 2015 final group qualifying match between the Super Eagles and South Africa.

According to Vanguard, This was confirmed by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick in Uyo after an inspection tour of the edifice.

The stadium which has been receiving a lot of media reviews since its completion was described by the NFF boss as “one of the best and could be compared with any other stadium in the world.”

Boko Haram: President Jonathan increases troops in North East to 20,000

In the bid to end the reign of terror in the North-Eastern part of the country, President Goodluck Jonathan has increased the number of troops in the region from 15,000 to 20,000. Punch report.
