Terrorism: 1,200 Nigerian security personnel leave for Russia

About 1,200 Nigerian security personnel including members of the Armed Forces, the police and members of the Department of State Services, DSS, have so far left Abuja for anti-insurgent training in Russia.

Their departure for training as Special Forces, security sources said, followed alleged snub or  nonchalant attitude of both the United Kingdom and United States towards Nigeria in her fight against Boko Harm terrorists.

According to Saturday Vanguard, 400 security personnel left the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in a chattered aircraft at about 5pm weekend, accompanied by top security officers as well as Russian instructors who had been in the country to part of the initial selection process for the officers and men that would take part in the training. further revealed that two other batches of 400 troops each had earlier departed for the training, bringing the total number of officers so far to about 1,200.

Doctor 'Successfully' Treats Ebola with HIV Drug in Liberia

A doctor in rural Liberia inundated with Ebola patients says he's had good results with a treatment he tried out of sheer desperation: an HIV drug.

According to CNN, Dr. Gobee Logan had given the drug, lamivudine, to 15 Ebola patients, and all but two survived. That's a 7% mortality rate. Across West Africa, the virus has killed 70% of its victims. Outside Logan's Ebola center in Tubmanburg, four of his recovering patients walk the grounds, always staying inside the fence that separates the Ebola patients from everyone else.

"My stomach was hurting; I was feeling weak; I was vomiting," Elizabeth Kundu, 23, says of her bout with the virus. "They gave me medicine, and I'm feeling fine. We take it, and we can eat -- we're feeling fine in our bodies."

30 Killed as Boko Haram fight among themselves in Madagali; Who should succeed Abubakar Shekau

Thirty Boko  Haram fighters killed one another yesterday in Madagali, Adamawa State during a leadership tussle over who should succeed Abubakar Shekau, shot dead by the Nigerian military last week. Madagali is one of local government areas of Adamawa State occupied by the insurgents. This is even as about 21 people were killed by terrorists in an attack on two Borno communities on Wednesday.

In the Madagali incident, trapped residents said a fight occurred over the disagreement on whether to pick a new leader or surrender to the military which killed their Amir (leader) in Bazza.

“From what we learnt, 30 Boko Haram fighters have been killed in Madagali town after a fight ensued between them over whether to surrender their weapons. They just kept shooting themselves freely,” one Mr Musa Audi told Daily Sun. According to him, there had been disquiet in Boko Haram camp with some calling and agitating for a ceasefire.

N503million Scam: EFCC to Appeal Lagos Speaker, Ikuforiji’s Acquittal

A Federal high court sitting in Lagos discharged and acquitted the Lagos state House of Assembly Speaker, Hon Adeyemi Ikuforiji and his aide Oyebode Atoyebi of the N503m money laundering charges brought against them by EFCC. EFCC says they plan to appeal the verdict.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has said it will appeal against the ruling of Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court, Lagos, which today set free the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeniyi Ikuforiji and his aide, Oyebode Atoyebi.

Both had been standing trial on a 54-count charge of money laundering to the tune of N503million.

Justice Buba, today ruled that the prosecution failed to prove its case against the accused persons, According to him, the trial was “anachronistic,” adding that the prosecution ‘ misconstrued and mis-interpreted the Money Laundering Act”. Continue...

The Parish Pastor of the Christ Apotolic Church in Otumara in Warri Delta state, Pastor J.O. Kayoda, yesterday September 25th lost his wife and four children, two boys and two girls, in a fire outbreak at their home. According to reports, all five family members were burnt beyond recognition after an electric fault in the area caused a fire outbreak in the missionary building of the church where the pastor and his wife stayed. Woman Arrested for Burying Her Day-Old Baby Alive (Photo)

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a woman, Ms Patience Aaron, for attempting to kill her new born baby girl. It was learnt that Aaron, an indigene of Afaha Abia village, in the Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state, on September 14, buried her one-day baby alive.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gabriel Achong, said during a press conference in Uyo on Thursday that the baby was rescued alive nearly five hours after she had been buried.

“The state police detective on September14, 2014 arrested one Patience Aaron of Afaha Abia village in the Nsit Ibom LGA for attempting to kill the baby girl she gave birth to.

“Patience buried her one-day-old baby in a shallow grave. The baby was rescued alive. Investigation is in progress,” he said.
