US Denies Blocking FG’s Purchase Of War Aircraft

The United States embassy in Nigeria has faulted a story of its purported blocking of the sale of CH-47 Chinook transport aircraft by the state of Israel to Nigeria.

Responding to the story published by ThisDay newspaper, that the US had prevented Israel from selling the cargo helicopters to Nigeria, the embassy’s press attaché, Sean J. McIntosh, said his country had a good diplomatic relationship with Nigeria.

“The United States remains committed to helping the government of Nigeria address the threat posed by the terrorist organisation Boko Haram. We continue to support Nigerian efforts to bring about the safe recovery of the abductees and to advise the government of Nigeria on its response,” he said.

He further added that, “We are advising on issues of survivor support, humanitarian assistance, criminal investigations, intelligence and strategic communications.”

House of Assembly members ask Governor Fashola to rename IDH after Doctor Stella Adadevoh

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly moved a motion yesterday September 24th asking the state Governor, Babatunde Fashola to rename the Infectious Disease Hospital, IDH, where Ebola disease patients were recently treated, after Doctor Stella Adadevoh.

The motion for her to be immortalized was moved by Hon Adefunmilayo Tejuoso and seconded by Hon Muyiwa Jimoh. The lawmakers said Dr. Adadevoh's act of stopping Sawyer from leaving the First Consultant hospital after she found out he was infected with the deadly virus, saved many lives

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji directed the clerk of the House, Segun Abiru to communicate the decision to the state Governor. If approved by the Governor, the hospital will be known as the Stella Adadevoh Infectious Disease Hospital.

Tyler is expecting his first child with on-again, off-again girlfriend of a few years, Gelila Bekele. The pair are yet to make any official comments on the pregnancy and seem to really want to keep it under wraps. But time will tell.

Bishop blasts Pastor Oritsejafor for Playing Politics with CAN

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria has accused Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor of smearing the image of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), saying it is wrong for his plane to be associated with the scandalous “arms deal” in South Africa.

Speaking on BBC Hausa Service monitored in Kaduna on Wednesday, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama, who is the Archbishop of Jos and President, Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria, said they had been watching with sadness how Oristejafor had been hobnobbing with the Presidency for long. He accused the CAN President of dragging Christianity into the mud.

In the words of Bishop Kaigama: “It is not proper; the guilty must be punished. It is not acceptable for a Christian leader to be seen always with the President. We in the Catholic have always picked holes in Oritsejafor’s style of leadership in CAN and we even wanted to stop attending CAN meeting at the national level.”

Boko Haram Members abandon sick Chibok girl in the bush

An unfortunate condition appears to have worked for the good of one of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls, as she was found abandoned after health issues obviously forced the Boko Haram sect to drop her off at Kalaha, a remote village in Borno State.

The girl, who was discovered and identified by students in the village, gave her name as Susan Ishaya. She explained that she had been abandoned two days earlier, having been driven to the area in a Volkswagen Golf car.

Revealing this to the members of the #BringBackOurGirls Group yesterday, the chairman of Chibok community in Abuja, Tshalaba Hosea-Abana explained that a man identified as Rev Enoch had called to brief him on the situation of the abandoned girl.
