Dangote In Trouble With Zambian Government (See Why)

Zambia Govt and Dangote Cement are now locked in an uncomfortable situation after a Zambian minister accused the Nigerian company of attempting to bribe him. This recent dispute is said to be latest in a string of events which has seen Zambia start to strong arm foreign investors it believes are circumventing labour laws. Dangote Industries employs around 400 workers in zambia and by November the figure is expected to increase to 2000 after they built a $400m cement plant.

It is said that the bribe occurred during the a tour of the plant in Ndola, 300km (188 miles) north of the capital, Lusaka. Labour minister Fackson Shamenda said that Dangote officials attempted to bribe him in their hotel. Dangote cement has however come out and said that the allegations as “malicious misinformation.”

It could not be ascertained how many had been killed in the school, which is not far away from Bayero University in the same city. Early report from Kano says the insurgents attacked the college of education around 3.20pm.

JTF Spokesman Ikechukwu Eze confirms that there was a bomb explosion and sporadic shooting at Federal College, Kano. Kano State police commissioner Adelere Shinaba told AFP the "insurgents", ran onto the grounds of the Federal College of Education after exchanging fire with police outside.

"They were obviously suicide bombers. One of our officers shot at one of the gunmen and the explosives on him went off, killing him on the spot,"
"Another gunman was also killed. Thirteen people were killed by the gunmen and 34 others have been taken to hospital with injuries."

Great News: Nigerian troops celebrate after killing hundreds of Boko Haram men in Konduga (See Photos)

Nigerian troops this morning September 17th successfully crushed another attempt by Boko Haram members who were on a revenge mission to Konduga, in Borno State. According to a statement by Defence HQ, 3 Hilux vehicles, 1 Amoured Personnel Carrier and a cache of arms and ammunition were captured by the troops. Hundreds of the militants were said to have been killed. Troops are now combing the vicinity, in a cordon and search operation to determine the heavy casualties suffered by the terrorists in the encounter. More photos below...

Bad Day! Ex-Minister Thrown Into Rubbish Bin By Angry Mob (Photos)

A former minister named Vitaly Zhuravskywas attacked yesterday morning September 16th by an angry mob as he walked past a crowd outside the parliament building in Kiev, the Ukrainian capital. The minister was grabbed by the screaming mob and bundled head first into the half full rubbish bin and they proceeded to pelt him with the rubbish, pour water on him and hit him on the head with a car tyre. 4 Dead In Kebbi After Police Rescue Foreign National Suspected Of Being A Ritualist

Today at about 12noon, a group of villagers in Kamba, Kebbi State, were about to lynch a national of Niger Republic, named Adamu Gaya, on suspicion of involvement in an alleged ritual murder of a young girl. The Police rescued and brought him into protective custody. 

However, irate villagers attacked the Police station and destroyed the communication base. They also burnt two (2) Police vehicles, and nine (9) motorcycles. 

Also smashed were the windscreens of four (4) cars parked at the premises. The mob also burnt the official residence of the Divisional Police Officer. In the attack, four (4) persons lost their lives. Eighty-nine (89) persons have been arrested for the violence.
The Inspector-General of Police, Ag.IGP Suleiman Abba has therefore called on citizens not to take laws into their hands rather they should assist law enforcement officers in maintenance of law and order in the society.

Nigerian government admits ownership of $9.3 million arms money seized by South Africa

The Nigerian government has opened talks with South Africa after an aircraft conveying $9.3m cash from Abuja, allegedly for arms purchase, was seized by the South African authorities. Two Nigerians and an Israeli aboard the airplane were detained and are facing investigations for transporting the huge amount into South Africa.

It emerged on Tuesday that the jet is owned by Ayo Oritsejafor, who heads the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN. Mr. Oritsejafor denied knowledge of the arms deal saying the aircraft was managed by another company, Eagle Air Company, which in turn, leased the jet to a third party, Green Coast Produce Limited.

The two firms confirmed that claim in separate statements. Details of the transaction remained vague beyond the revelations that the sum was meant for the purchase of arms for an unnamed Nigerian security agency. In what appeared the first official confirmation of the deal, security personnel were quoted Tuesday as confirming the order and saying it was a normal practice to procure arms with cash. Also, the Federal Government has released data and documents on the transaction, telling the South African government the transaction was “legitimate”. Continue...

Boko Haram Installs Emirs in Gwoza and Dambua

Boko Haram has installed emirs in Gwoza and Dambua, Borno State, the two towns that fell to the Islamist sect two weeks ago, Senator Ali Dume told his colleagues as Senate resumed from its two-month recess yesterday. This is even as the Upper Chamber urged President Goodluck Jonathan to declare total war on the insurgents, advising him to mobilise all resources and efforts to that effect.

Senator Ndume, who represents southern Borno, told lawmakers that Boko Haram has literally sacked two emirs and installed their own on Monday. His words:

“I represent southern Borno and Gwoza. The challenges we are facing are more serious than what we have faced before. We, the people of southern Borno, particularly Gwoza, parts of Adamawa and Yobe know that it’s presently occupied!

“I read here on the Senate Order Paper about a threat. It’s no longer a threat; somebody is occupying that place and he’s declared it a caliphate!Yesterday, a new emir was installed by Boko Haram in Dambua.

P. Diddy has reportedly closed a deal to own on a sprawling European-style villa in Holmby Hills, Los Angeles, close to where Michael Jackson died. Nigerian Military Quietly Fires GOC Attacked By Convicted Soldiers

Military authorities have retired the former General Officer Commanding the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, Maj. Gen. Abubakar Mohammed, who was attacked by soldiers at their barracks in Maiduguri on May 14th. The soldiers have since been sentenced to death for that action by a military court. According to Punch, Mohammed was retired after he was recalled to the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army without posting for months after the soldiers’ attempt on his life.

It was gathered from a top military source in Abuja that the Army authorities quietly retired him last month. The source said,

"The Maj. Gen. has been retired; you don’t expect that to be made public; issues of retirement especially in the military are confidential. The man was at the Army headquarters for some time. He was awaiting posting then but he was eventually retired about a month ago."

Meanwhile, the NLC, TUC and human rights lawyers have urged the Presidency and the Army Council chaired by the Minister of Defence to prevail on the military authorities to spare the lives of the 12 soldiers.
