Conflicts Around The World May Amount To ‘Third War’ - Pope Says

Pope Francis has said the spate of conflicts around the globe today were effectively a "piecemeal" Third World War, condemning the arms trade and "plotters of terrorism" sowing death and destruction.

"Humanity needs to weep and this is the time to weep," Francis said in the homily of a Mass during a visit to Italy’s largest war memorial, a large, Fascist-era monument where more than 100,000 soldiers who died in World War One are buried.

The pope began his brief visit to northern Italy on Saturday by first praying in a nearby, separate cemetery for about 15,000 soldiers from five nations of the Austro-Hungarian empire which were on the losing side of the Great War that broke out 100 years ago

'Why Corp Members Now Have to Pay N4,000 to Get Call-up Letters' – NYSC

The National Youth Service Corps has defended its new policy that requires prospective corps members to pay N4,000 each before accessing their call-up letters online. According to the agency that mobilizes Nigerian graduates for their compulsory one-year service to the nation, insinuations that the new system was introduced for exploitative reasons is not true.

Speaking with the News  Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja yesterday, the agency’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs  Olubunmi Aderibigbe, said the new policy was in the interest of the corps members. That contrary to the false impression, the new process was aimed at improving efficiency and reducing the stress  associated with the collection of call-up letters by  prospective corps members. She said:

"It is wrong for anyone to assert that NYSC is exploiting  prospective corps members through the new computerized process. Some people seem not to know what some of prospective corps  members go through before collecting their call-up letters;  many of them travel several kilometres away from their homes  just to get the call-ups.
What we have done is in fact to reduce the cost and risks  associated with the collection of the call-ups and to eliminate  sharp practices associated with the old process."

"Why TB Joshua's Synagogue Building Collapsed" – NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has given more reasons why a building collapsed at the premises of the Synagogue Church of all Nations in Lagos on Friday. According to NEMA spokesman, Ibrahim Farinloye, the building was originally a two storey building being raised to five.

“The additional three was being constructed when it collapsed around 1p.m Friday afternoon. The church members have been very aggressive and tried attacking emergency responders.  Before emergency responders arrival, about 15 are said to have being rescued alive and three dead.  Many are said to trapped still.” Farinloye stated in an sms message.

FRSC to introduce ‘flying ticket policy’ for road offenders

The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC will soon be introducing 'Flying Ticket Policy' to penalize traffic offenders in the country. The FRSC made this known yesterday September 12th at a conference in Abuja.

The policy would empower officers of the commission to take picture evidence of traffic offenders in the country

On Friday, August 15, 2014 my mother and I went to Egypt Air head office at 22B Idowu Taylor Street, Victoria Island, Lagos to book a return ticket for me to go back to school to continue my studies at Dnepropetrovsk Medical Academy, Dnepropetrovsk Ukraine. This was about 11:15 am.

On entering the Egypt air office we met Mr. Tony Nzan on counter 1 to attend to us and we asked to book a ticket to Kiev, Ukraine.   Mr. Tony Nzan explained to us the itinerary for the flight going to Ukraine after which we went to the bank to withdraw money and returned to pay for the ticket and obtained two printouts, so that my mother could have my return itinerary from Kiev next year.

Terrorism: 800 Chibok Youths Flee Community

According to Punch, No fewer than 800 Chibok youths have in the last six weeks fled their homes and ran to Lagos, Kano, Abuja and other cities to evade attack by the violent Boko Haram sect.

It was learnt that the sect had embarked on mass abductions of young men as fighters and many Chibok youths and others from the surrounding villages were being abducted by the insurgents for conscription.

Oil reserves exist in Chad basin, which is centered in lake Chad which is surrounded by Niger, Cameroon, Chad and Nigeria. Chad is an exporter of oil which runs in 1070 km pipelines through Cameroon.

Nigeria's exploration of oil from the Basin which extends through Yobe, Borno and Adamawa States have been hindered by Boko Haram insurgency which deliberately hampers commercial exploration. Oil has been discovered in Lake Chad but terrorism continues to push forward the mission of Nigeria to start drilling for commercial quantities.

"Vanguard learnt that the various technical personnel who provided support services for exploration activities have left the region from fear of being killed, while geologists in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), also shunned the volatile Basin in Borno State for fear of losing their lives."

Airline Passenger Detained Over WiFi Name “Bomb on Board”

A Southwest Airlines passenger has been arrested at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Washington, for naming his WiFi hotspot “Bomb on Board.”

Passengers on Flight 3677 heading to Denver were waiting to depart on Thursday September 11 when they noticed someone on the plane had named his WiFi hotspot "Southwest – Bomb on Board." The man whose name has not been disclosed as at press time for security reasons later changed his WiFi hotspot’s name to "Bomb Location 19E".

"He also changed it to something about the stewardess being hot," said Ken Saldi, another passenger aboard the flight. The airport security personnel were not willing to take the risk and the man behind the network names was detained. Passengers were then taken off the plane and their bags were re-screened before the flight was able to continue its trip to Denver.

Daylight Rapist Almost Lynched in LAUTECH

In recent times, the crime rate at Ogbomoso, Oyo State has become inordinately high. And this is more so the case in areas where the student populace of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Akure (LAUTECH) reside.

With reports of theft, burglary, assault and r*pe, among other vices on the rise, the students of the institution residing at Adenike area again rose to an uproar on September 6, as one of the notorious armed robbers-cum-r*pist was finally caught in the act.

Minimal violence ensued as the intended victims called the Students’ Union leadership and handed the criminal over to them. The Speaker of the Students Representative Council, Olalekan Salami, alongside other members of the House, took the criminal in the Unions’ bus, but unfortunately, on their way to the Police Station, the bus was involved in a mysterious accident, leaving a severe injury on Olalekan and 14 other persons in the bus with the exception of the criminal, Segun (last name withheld).

The world's tallest dog dies day before his 6th birthday

The World's tallest dog has died just days before his 6th birthday. Zeus was 3ft 6 inches tall at the shoulder and when he stood on his back legs was an incredible 7ft 4in high. He weighed 11 stone.

The giant Great Dane, who was named the world's tallest living dog in the 2012 Guinness World Records, died on September 3rd. He lived in Michigan, US, with his owners before his passing.

According to eyewitnesses, 2 Mazda cars collided with a Petrol tanker which immediately busted into flames causing the death of 9 persons including a child. The accident occurred this morning. Doctor who performed Joan Rivers' throat procedure has been fired

According to TMZ, the doctor who performed the endoscopy on late legendary comedian Joan Rivers at Yorkville Endoscopy, NY, has been fired by the clinic's board.

Dr. Lawrence Cohen stepped down after the board asked him to do so - however, the board isn't directly blaming him for Joan's death. A rep for the clinic confirmed he was ousted from his position as medical director.
According to sources;

The board's issue with Cohen is that he allowed Joan's doc to step in and perform an unauthorized procedure. Reportedly, that procedure was a biopsy ... and Joan went into respiratory and cardiac arrest while it was being done. Cohen is a world renowned gastroenterologist ... and also co-owner of Yorkville. He's been on administrative leave since Joan's procedure on August 28.

Angry Soldiers Kill 150 Boko Haram Fighters In Konduga

No fewer than 150 suspected members of the outlawed Boko Haram sect were killed by soldiers on Friday during a confrontation in Konduga, about 35 kilometres from Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

It was learnt that hundreds of terrorists stormed Konduga in the early hours of Friday in a convoy of jeeps and motorcycles, but were adequately resisted and contained by the re-energized soldiers.

A member of the local vigilance group, Kolobe Abdullahi, told journalists that the residents could not sleep on Thursday night when they got the hint that insurgents intended to attack the town.

Abdullahi said, “People saw them when they were coming and they were seriously dealt with. As I am telling you, more than 100 of the Boko Haram members were killed and several others were injured. 

“We destroyed all their utility vehicles, some cars and motorcycles. We also seized some arms and vehicles.” Continue...

Cruel! Synagogue officials chases NEMA officials away from Collapse Scene(photos)

Nigerian National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Officials have withdrawn from the scene of the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Ikotun, Lagos. The Public Relations Officer, National Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye told journalists that they (NEMA) had to leave after the church’s security staff, operating aggressively and threateningly, attacked emergency aid officials.

"The church members have been very aggressive and hostile to us; they attacked us and we had to withdraw our services. I was attacked, the officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency and the General Manager of LASEMA were also attacked. We were not hurt and our equipment was not damaged. This was, however, because we quickly left when they attacked us. We are still waiting to settle before we resume our job.” Farinloye said.

Also, Journalists were barred from covering the incident by church members, who were trying to play down the incident.

$50m Found In Account of PDP Guber Candidate Involved In Oil Theft, As EFCC Denies Manipulation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday confirmed that it has arrested and detained Mr. Jarrett Tenebe, a PDP gubernatorial hopeful in Edo State who is involved in high level oil theft. It was learned from EFCC sources that $50million has been found in an account belonging to Tenebe.
