Senegal's First Ebola Patient Makes Full Recovery

Senegal’s Ministry of Health on Wednesday said the country’s first Ebola patient, a 21-year-old student from Guinea, has made full recovery. The ministry’s Director of Disease Control, Idrissa Talla, told newsmen in Dakar. According to the director, the unnamed male student is free of Ebola symptoms and tested negative to the virus on two occasions.

Report said the student arrived in Dakar in August by road from Guinea, where the epidemic first erupted in December 2013. Senegal is the fifth West African country to be affected by the outbreak. However, the recovered student is one of three confirmed and suspected cases in the country.

EBOLA: Bill Gates & Wife Donate Over N8billion To Fight Ebola

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have announced it will donate over N8billion ($50 million) to help fight the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

The money will be used to accelerate the development of therapies, vaccines, and diagnostics that could be effective in treating patients and preventing further transmission of the disease.

"No Ebola Case in Nigeria Again" - Minister of Health

The Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, has announced that there is "no single current" case of Ebola in Nigeria. Chukwu also confirmed that wife of the late Port Harcourt doctor who treated a primary contact of the index case, Patrick Sawyer, has been discharged from the isolation ward in Lagos. The minister said she was discharged on Tuesday, adding that there was no new confirmed case of Ebola in the country.

“As of today, the total number of confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Nigeria stands at 19, 15 in Lagos, four in Port Harcourt. The total number of deaths from EVD in Nigeria stands at seven. Five of this died in Lagos, one in a private hospital, the index case Mr Sawyer, and the other four 4 in the isolation ward in Lagos State. 

Two of the seven died in Port Harcourt, the medical doctor who died in a private hospital
and the contact, a patient in the hospital at the time the doctor was also on admission, who died in the isolation ward in Rivers state.

A Mexican family has been jailed for gouging out the eyes of their five-year-old relative with a spoon during a satanic ritual to bring about the end of the world.

Fernando Caleb Alvarado Rios was ordered to close his eyes out of respect with his mother, grandparents, aunt and uncles as they danced in a circle and called on Satan to reveal himself.

But when he was too scared to do so, his mother, Maria del Carmen Garcia Rios, grabbed a spoon and the entire group gouged them out.They were caught when neighbours, who had heard loud chanting, came to investigate and saw the child screaming in pain.

Evil!! Father kills his 5 young children, dumps them in bin bags at road side

A 32 year old father of five, Timothy Ray Jones has admitted to killing all five of his children and dumping their bodies in rubbish bags at the side of a road.

Timothy led police to the scene (pictured after the cut) where they found bodies of all five of the children stuffed into bin bags near a logging road, 50 miles away in Alabama, Reuters reports.

The children, aged between 8 and 2 were reported missing from their home in South Carolina on September 3rd by their mother.  Their bodies were found today. Notes referring to violence against the children were also found in his car.

Pres. Jonathan orders removal of offensive #bringback Jonathan signs

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has directed that the #Bring Back Jonathan 2015 signs and banners around Abuja which he and many Nigerians find offensive and repugnant  be brought down immediately.

President Jonathan wholly shares the widely expressed view that the signs which were put up without his knowledge or approval are a highly insensitive parody of the #Bring Back Our Girls hash tag.

While President Jonathan appreciates the enthusiastic show of support for his administration  by a broad range of stakeholders, he condemns the #Bring Back Jonathan 2015 signs which appear to make light of the very serious national and global concern for the abducted Chibok girls.

"White Witches" arrested for duping couple of N14.5m (Photo)

The men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two ‘white witches’ and two other members of a fraud syndicate who allegedly duped a couple of N14.5m.

The ‘witches’ ─ Risikat Oriyomi, Sola Babalola; and the other suspects; Shehu Salam, and Wasiu Ajani ─ were arrested in Omusorin village, Obafemi/ Owode Local Government Area. The fifth suspect, who was said to be the ring leader, Baba Awotola, was said to have fled on sighting the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Ajani, a native of Ilorin, Kwara State, who claimed to be an Islamic cleric, was said to have got the couple into the net of the syndicate.

Very Sad!! Ebola survivors lose jobs, accomodation in Lagos..

On Tuesday, Lagos State Government warned residents against stigmatizing survivors of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) or those placed under surveillance. Saying that it will not hesitate to prosecute any resident that stigmatises survivors of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris  gave the warning while briefing newsmen on the efforts of the government to contain the virus. He said the  government had received complaints of stigmatization from some of those who had been treated of the virus, as well as from contacts under surveillance. He said:

“The social problem being faced by discharged cases has been reported to the government. This ranges from stigmatisation, eviction from their accommodation, being asked to stay away from work and termination of employment.

I’m Eager to Return to the Battlefield – Obasanjo’s Son tells Atiku

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo's son, Lt. Col. Adeboye Obasanjo who was wounded in a fire-fight in Bazza between the military and Boko Haram terrorists on Monday, has expressed eagerness to return to the battleground as soon as he fully recovers.

The younger Obasanjo stated this on Tuesday when former vice president Atiku Abubakar paid him a visit at a government medical facility in Yola where he is receiving treatment.

He added that the former vice president praised the gallant spirit of Obasanjo, prompting him to comment that the young man inherited the trait from his former boss.

“He was even marching before me, even as he was recovering from gunshots,” Atiku reportedly said, while wishing him speedy recovery.

Ebola: OAU Female Student quarantined, confesses contact with late Dr.Enemuo

Fear gripped students, parents and staff of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife on Tuesday over a report that a patient on admission at the OAU Health Centre was a suspected Ebola Virus Disease victim.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Temitope Ilori, said the sick student had confessed having contact with the late Port Harcourt doctor, Iyke Enemuo, who died of the EVD after he secretly treated an infected ECOWAS diplomat, Olu-Ibukun Koye, in a hotel in the Rivers State capital.

The commissioner said the female student had been put in the isolation ward. Ilori said,

“I was told that a student of the OAU who had contact with the doctor who died of the Ebola virus in Port Harcourt walked into the health centre when she was sick.

"I want to go back to Sierra Leone" - First british nurse to contract Ebola says

29 year old british nurse, William pooley, who was evacuated to the UK after contracting the Ebola virus has revealed his intentions to return to Sierra Leone. Pooley survived deadly disease after receiving treatment at the Royal Free Hospital in London. He is now planning to return to Sierra Leone.

He told guardian:

It's a global problem and it needs global level leadership so Obama and Cameron... need to show some more leadership on this issue.

20 Policemen Still Missing after Boko Haram Attack – IG

Twenty Nigerian police officers are still missing three weeks after Boko Haram fighters attacked a training academy outside the remote northeastern town of Gwoza, the country’s police chief said on Tuesday. Inspector General Suleiman Abba told reporters that police would “not relent in the efforts of tracing them”.

Initially, police said 35 officers were missing after the attack on August 21. Abba said some had since returned, without explaining how.

“We have been able to trace some of the officers who have reported back to their bases. Some have even reported back to their families,” he said.
