Boko Haram: SSS Probes Sheriff Over Alleged Sponsorship

The Department of State Security, said it had summoned a former governor of Borno State, Modu Sheriff, for interrogation over his alleged sponsorship of Boko Haram.

The service stated that it had quizzed Sheriff twice in connection with his alleged involvement with the sect, adding that investigation was ongoing into various aspects of the allegations by the Australian negotiator, Stephen Davies, who named the former governor as one of the financial backers of the sect. Boko Haram: Jonathan declares full-scale war; Deploy Warplanes

Nigerian military allegedly use country’s warplanes for carrying out air strikes in Bama previously seized by Boko Haram insurgents. After the insurgents had recently taken over the strategic town of Borno state displacing locals and forcing soldiers to flee from the area, the military were said to continue counter-strike attacks on Boko Haram bases in Bama, this time deploying warplanes.

It was disclosed by a senior official, who pleaded anonymity while speaking with Reuters yesterday. According to him, air strikes have been carried out “on all the Boko Haram bases”, which he said reflected President Goodluck Jonathan’s order for a “fully-fledged war” against insurgents operating in the North-East.

Boko Haram Allegation Against Me Baseless – Ihejirika

The immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen General Azubuike Ihejika, on Friday warned that giving undue attention to frivolous and baseless accusations could divert the attention of the country and her security agencies from the challenge to eliminate the scourge of terrorism in the country.

Ihejirika, who was reacting to claims by an Australia hostage negotiator, Stephen Davies, that the insurgents mentioned him and a former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sherrif, among the sponsors of Boko Haram.

The former Army Chief made the comment while speaking at a meeting of the Alumini Association of members of Regular Course 18 of the Nigerian Defence Academy, at the National Defence College, Abuja.

The fiance of late nurse Justina Ejelonu who died from the deadly Ebola virus, Dennis Akagha says he's currently being stigmatized for being associated with the deadly Ebola disease. The Defence Headquarters yesterday released a statement assuring Nigerians that they are going to do everything to defend Nigeria against Boko Haram. In the last few weeks, Boko Haram has been terrorizing Borno State with them now in control of Gwosa and also fighting to take over Bama which has left thousands of residents of the communities homeless. More disturbing is their threat to take over Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State which has made international communities tell the Nigerian Government to sit up tight in fighting the insurgents.

“While welcoming all the concerns shown by Nigerians and a section of the international community following the increased menace and activities of terrorists, it is necessary to reassure all that the Nigerian Armed Forces is more than ever determined and committed to the defence of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nigeria, regardless of any odd,” the statement said.

Ebola: Cameroon Quarantines 60 Nigerians

According to a report by a Cameroonian online newspaper, cameroon-info.net, the sixty Nigerians were quarantined in the Ekok, Ekondo, and Titi communities in the country’s South-West region close to the border with Nigeria. They were put under observation for 21 days, the incubation period for the virus but had to be released after spending 2 weeks, last Thursday, September 4, at the direction of the Minister of Public Health, André Mama Fouda after testing negative to the virus hemorrhagic fever.

CIN also reports that the press has denounced the course of the weeks, the treatment of these people in the camps where they were placed. Inadequately housed and ill-fed, they would have had a holiday from hell to Cameroon-Nigerian border.
