We Are Invading Sambisa Forest To Attack Boko Haram – Civilian-JTF, Local Hunters, Retired Soldiers

A group comprising members of the Civilian-JTF, local hunters, retired soldiers and police officers have announced their resolve to take the battle to the hideout of the Boko Haram in Sambisa and Gwoza Town.2 The group decided to take the bull by the horn amidst increasing fears that the Boko Haram terrorists, who had recently attacked Bama town, might invade Maiduguri any time soon.

The group congregated at the palace of the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Elkanemi, whose royal blessing they had gone to seek. The state coordinator of the Civilian JTF, Abba Aji Kalli, stated,

“We are at the Shehu’s palace to seek for his blessings and fatherly advice, because we have all vowed to go after Boko Haram even if we are not well armed. We are optimistic that with our sticks and other local charms, we will raid all terrorists’ hideouts and kill them when given permission by the federal government.

Nigerian Government denies hiring Stephen Davis as Boko Haram negotiator

Nigerian government has denied claims by Australian hostage negotiator, Stephen Davis, that he was hired to negotiate for the release of Chibok girls.

Speaking through the Coordinator of the National Information Center, Mr Mike Omeri, today Sept. 5th in Abuja, FG said the decision to hire a negotiator would be made public whenever they decide to do so and that they have no plans to question those alleged to be Boko Haram sponsors by Stephen Davis

"For now nobody has been hired by the government to negotiate on its behalf with Boko Haram. Anytime the government decides to do so, it will make it known to the public. The government is still investigating the allegations made by the alleged negotiator. However, the government has no plan to question anybody because of those allegations made by the Australian,” Omeiri stated.

Capture of Borno towns: 'Reputation of Nigeria’s military at stake' – US

The United States of America  warned yesterday that the reputation of Nigeria’s military was at stake while the future of the country and her children was in jeopardy following the capture of some towns in the north eastern part of the country in the last few weeks by Boko Haram terrorists.

This came as Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, revealed that for the country to win the war against terrorism, there was the need for diplomatic lobbying for foreign assistance in areas of equipment.

Also, yesterday, the Federal Government assured that no Nigerian Soldier would die in vain, even as a retired general, now a Senator, Ahmed Saleh said the battle against insurgency was far from being over, saying  “what we are seeing is a complete deterioration of the situation.”

FG Orders Schools To Resume September 22

The Federal Government has fixed Monday, September 22, 2014 as new resumption date for schools across the country. It would be recalled that the Federal Government had on August 26, postponed resumption of private and public primary as well as secondary schools to October 13, 2014, as a precautionary step against the spread of the Ebola virus disease.

However, following the progress made in curtailing the spread of the disease, the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu after the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, hinted that the schools would be reopened mid – September.

Usain Bolt, World’s fastest man has said that it would be cool to race against a Cheetah.
Bolt made the statement during a charity cricket match, in the Indian city of Bangalore.

“A cheetah would be cool to compete with … (I) can see the headline ‘Usain Bolt beats cheetah,” Bolt said.
“If you want to be great you have to work hard,” he added.

FG Gives Nigerian Army N300 Billion

Honorable Bashir Adamu, a member representing (PDP, Jigawa), who is also the Chairman; House Committee on Defence, on Thursday revealed that the sum of N300 billion has been given to the Nigerian Army. According to ThisDay, Adamu revealed that the money was a paltry payment out of the N1 trillion stated in the budget.

The lawmaker urged the Federal Government to release more funds to the military following the security challenge being experienced in the country, to enable it confront insurgency head on.
Adamu, said they would meet the president on the matter to discuss it extensively in order to find lasting peace to the issues in the North-East.

Australian Hostage Negotiator Challenges Alimodu Sheriff to Sue Him

Two days ago, former governor of Borno State, Alimodu Sheriff threatened to sue Australian hostage negotiator, Stephen Davis for alleging that he is one of the primary sponsors of Boko Haram (READ IT HERE). In response to these threats, Davis has asked Sheriff to go ahead and sue him, The Cable reports.

Stating that he is 100 percent sure of his facts, Davis says:

Boko Haram Vows to Take over Maiduguri; Soldiers Evacuate Families from Barracks

Families and non-military staff residing in two major military barracks in Maiduguri, Borno State, are now being evacuated after Boko Haram terrorists dropped letters announcing their plan to take the most important city in Nigeria’s northeast region. The letters were dropped at the gates of Giwa and Maimalari military barracks as well as different parts of the city of Maiduguri.

Several soldiers also told Sahara Reporters that some of their colleagues had fled the barracks after the letters were circulated amongst military personnel.

The letter detailing the planned attack on Maiduguri was written in Hausa language. It specifies that Boko Haram’s unpredictable leader, Abubakar Shekau, planned to personally lead insurgent fighters to attack Maimalari, the more formidable of the two barracks, and to fight to the death as a martyr.

Atiku Abubakar finally declares interest in the 2015 presidential election

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has finally declared his interest in contesting in the 2015 presidential election on the ticket of the APC. Atiku said he will declare officially on Wednesday, September 24. This was contained in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Mallam Garba Shenu, in Abuja this morning.

"The Turaki Adamawa will contest for the ticket of the All Progressives Congress, in the 2015 presidential elections. The former Vice President will be making the declaration on Wednesday September 24." the statement read in part

Ribadu Has Been Forced to Step Down from Adamawa Guber

Eight of the 14 aspirants jostling for Adamawa Governorship ticket under the PDP stepped down from the race in the early hours of Friday. After about four hours meeting with the aspirants that started by 9.06 p.m on Thursday and ended around 1.00 a.m on Friday at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Senate President, David Mark along with other officials of the party were able to reach a compromise with the aspirants and pruned down the number of those contesting to six.

The six aspirants still in the race for the party’s ticket on Saturday are: Ahmed Gulak, Buba Marwa, Ahmed Modibbo, Umar Ardo, Jerry Kumdisi and Ag Gov Umaru Fintiri.

Those who were made to withdraw from the primary election are Nuhu Ribadu; Auwal Tukur; Aliyu Idi Hong, Andrawus Sawa; James Barka; Gen. Aliyu Kama; Markus Gundiri and Abubakar Girei.

How 72-Year-Old Dutch Woman Loses N40.6m To Nigerian In Romance Scam

An internet fraudster, Adio Opeyemi Michael, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for defrauding a 72-year-old Dutch woman of €200,000 (about N40.6 million) in a romance scam.

The 31-year-old suspect was said to have met his victim, identified simply as Jeanet De Jonge, on Netlog dating site and pretended to be a 41-year-old American citizen working as a chef in a Nigerian restaurant and needs a wife.

Confirming the arrest, spokesman for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said that the suspect’s profile actually attracted Jeanet and she eventually began sending him money through Western Union and Money Gram.

New York Health Officials Investigating Clinic that Treated Joan Rivers

New York health officials are investigating the clinic that was treating Joan Rivers when the actress and comedian went into cardiac arrest last week. Several reports say the probe was prompted by circumstances surrounding the outpatient procedure.
