Ebola: British Scientists Discover Vaccine That Could Become Available By The End Of The Year

A new vaccine against the deadly Ebola virus has been developed in the UK and human trials could commence on 60 healthy British volunteers as early as next month. If the vaccine performs as well in humans as it already has in monkeys, it will be extended to 80 volunteers in Gambia and in Mali.

Because of the Ebola scourge in West Africa the trial programme is being fast-tracked – subject to ethical approval – with the intention of using the vaccine in people at high risk in West Africa early next year.

Shakira Pregnant; Expecting Sencond Baby With Hubby Gerard Pique

37-year-old Shakira and her soccer player partner Gerard Piqué are expecting their second child and she has just confirmed that it is going to be a boy! The singer revealed the baby news as she covered Cosmopolitan Magazine in Mexico. Shakira and her footballer already have a son together, named Milan.. "Well, yes, the truth is I am pregnant," Shakira told the magazine.

Rumors of a second pregnancy began to swirl after the singer's World Cup performance at the tournament’s closing ceremony in July, when she was spotted with a small bump and a more conservative outfit than usual.

Students in Thailand appear to have been forced to wear helmets to prevent them from cheating during exams.  Photographs posted to a Bangkok’s Kasetsart University alumni Facebook page appears to show students wearing a “helmet”, which consist of a piece of paper wrapped around the head and pieces of paper stapled to either side.

Kasetsart University is a public university, ranked one of the best in Thailand and with a focus on agriculture, food, technology and innovation. The low-tech anti-cheating helmet invention doesn’t look sophisticated, but would function like horse blinkers and prevent wearers from glancing to the side which should prevent any sneaky peeks at neighbours’ answers.

Another Tanker Explosion In Lagos

A tanker containing Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as PMS exploded yesterday at Total depot Dockyard, Apapa Road in Lagos. The fire incident, which started around 5:00am in the morning raged till 10:am before men of Oando and Total fire fighters as well as the Fire Service arrived the scene to put it out.

According to an eyewitness, the fire started around 5:00am in the morning when people suspected to be oil-bunkers were busy transferring PMS from kegs to the tanker.

“The incident began at about 5am, when illegal oil-bunkers were transferring PMS from kegs to the tanker. While transferring fuel from kegs to the tanker, one of the kegs was said to have fallen and caught fire, which engulfed the tanker. Fortunately, the other tanker close by was empty it would have been more serious. Immediately the fire started, the culprits all ran away,” the eye witness said.

Gunmen attack army camp in Bauchi, Commander killed

Unknown gunmen at about 5.20 this morning August 28th attacked an Army camp manned by six armed soldiers at Wunti -Dada, a suburb of Bauchi state, killing the commander of the camp and a soldier.

According to reports by The Nation, the unknown gunmen arrived the camp in two motorcycles immediately after the early morning Muslim prayers and opened fire, killing the commander and the soldier.

New Deputy Governor of Enugu State Has Been Announced

The Enugu State House of Assembly today August 28, announced Ralph Nwoye as the new deputy governor of the state. Nwoye replaces Sunday Onyebuchi who was impeached on Tuesday August 26th over allegations of gross misconduct and operating a commercial poultry at his official residence. Mr. Nwoye is a politician and pastor at the Christ Ascension Church in Enugu.

Boko Haram may Link up with Al Shabaab and ISIS - Australian negotiator

An Australian hostage negotiator, Dr. Stephen Davis, has warned that Boko Haram may establish links with two vicious terror groups- Al Shabaab and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria- if not effectively checked now by the Nigerian government.

Davis had visited Nigeria to negotiate the release of the over 200 schoolgirls abducted since April by Boko Haram insurgents. He previously worked as a negotiator for Nigerian government under ex-Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Shehu Yar’Adua administrations during the Niger-Delta militants uprising in the South-South. Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum and Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi on Wednesday explained why he was the target of attacks from some politicians within and outside the state.

Almost 80 per cent of those fighting him are are people he gave billions of naira in contracts and they have put the money in their pockets, they did not deliver and they claim they are Ikwerre people.

Sotloff, addressed her plea directly to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS and the self-declared caliph of the Muslim world.

Her son, freelance journalist Steven Sotloff, appeared last week in an ISIS video showing the decapitation of American journalist James Foley. The militant in the video warns that Steven Sotloff's fate depends on what President Barack Obama does next in Iraq. Finally! Detained NFF president Aminu Maigari released from police custody

Detained NFF president Aminu Maigari has finally regained his freedom along with fellow executive committee member Chris Green. He was released yesterday a day after he was arrested on Aug 26th.

“Maigari has been released by the security operatives. He was released in the morning from the special anti-robbery squad after he was handed to them by the Directorate of State Security Service. No charges were pressed against him, neither was he or Green questioned on anything. It was clearly to prevent them from attending the general assembly of Tuesday, which FIFA insisted be presided by Maigari.”” said an aide of the NFF boss.

Breaking: Nigeria Records New Ebola Death In Port Harcourt

A new Ebola case has sadly been reported in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. A doctor who is said to have secretly treated a diplomat, who met with Late Patrick Sawyer in Lagos before flying to Rivers State in a hotel, has died of the virus.

The doctor who is yet to be named died last Friday while his wife has also fallen ill. In all 70 people have been quarantined so far in Port Harcourt, while the hospital, Good Heart Hospital and the hotel has been shut down. Interestingly, the diplomat the doctor has been secretly treating is still alive.
