Ebola Experimental Drug ZMapp Fails, Liberian Doctor Dies

Liberian doctor Abraham Borbor, who had the experimental Ebola drug ZMapp administered, died in the country capital Monrovia. It was made known today, August 25, by Liberia’s information minister, BBC reports. Dr. Borbor, one of the top officials of the county’s biggest hospital,  was among the first 3 Africans who received treatment by the unapproved drug.

It will be recalled that ZMapp is believed to have saved the lives of two Americans, who got infected while working in Liberia. The minister told the Associated Press on Monday, Borbor “was showing signs of improvement but yesterday he took a turn for the worse”.

Boko Haram recaptures Gamboru-Ngala on the Nigeria-Cameroon border

Insurgents of the Islamist terror group, Boko Haram, today made further advances in territorial grab by once more taking over Gamboru-Ngala, a key township on the border between Nigeria and Cameroon, displacing many of the villagers and disarming about 480 Nigerian soldiers stationed at the Cameroon-Nigeria border.

According to reports, the attack started around 5.30 this morning in the army barracks in Ngala known as Harmony Camp before proceeding to Gamboru where they took over the town without any military resistance. The insurgents reportedly embarked on a house-to-house raid in Gamboru.

Ebola: US Donates Screening Equipment To Lagos Airport

The United States Government has donated equipment worth $5,000 to boost screening of the Ebola Virus Disease at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport so as to contain its spread in Nigeria. The US Consul General in Nigeria, Mr. John Hawkins, made the donation at the airport on Friday, August 22, at the airport.

“The donation of the equipment is a symbol of willingness on the part of the American Government to assist Nigeria in any way possible to combat the scourge,” he said.

A U.K-based mother killed her 3-year-old son and then hid his corpse in a suitcase. She was then sentenced to 11 years in jail. The woman, Rosdeep Adekoya, reportedly beat her son, Mikaeel Kular repeatedly two days before he died, according to Mirror.

When she discovered her son laying lifeless on the floor of their Edinburgh home, she wrapped him up in a duvet cover, put him in a suitcase, and drove for many miles to find a place to hide the body. She then hid it behind her sister’s house in Woodland.

Abubakar Shekau had released a video today, obtained by AFP, in which he made the declaration. Turns out that Abubakar made the declaration alongside a footage of prisoners being shot while on the floor. Ebola:Nigerian Customs intercepts,destroys trailer load of smuggled monkey meat(Photos)

Thefight against Ebola continues. The Nigerian customs intercepted and burnt a trailer load of smoked monkey meat being smuggled into the country through the Jibia border in Katsina state.

According to The Nation, the officer who led the operation, Assistant Comptroller, Gambo Azare, told newsmen at the site where the seized meat was destroyed that the driver of trailer conveying the killer meat took to his heels, abandoning the vehicle when the trailer ran into a ditch after a hot chase by his men.

Bodies Of Ebola Victims Cremated In Lagos

Bodies of the four Nigerians, who died of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) have been cremated in line with World Health Organisation (WHO) requirements for disposal of such corpses. The decision to cremate the bodies, it was gathered, may not be unconnected with the deadly nature of the Ebola Virus which is known to be easily transmissible from human to human, especially during handling of corpses of victims.

The body of the index (first) case, Patrick Sawyer was the first to be cremated on July 25, 2014. A health official at the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) of the Mainland Hospital, Lagos, who confirmed the development, said the Lagos State Government in following strict guidelines for disposal of the bodies, authorised cremation of all the bodies.

President Jonathan Is Not Sick —Presidency

The Presidency on Sunday claimed there was no truth in media reports that President Goodluck Jonathan was flown to Germany on Friday for medical attention. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said this in a telephone interview with Punch from Germany, where the President had been since Friday on a “private visit.”

Abati had last Thursday issued a "terse" statement, indicating that Jonathan, with a few aides, was travelling to Germany on a private visit and should be expected back this week. Media reports however had it that the President had been taken to a German hospital after he suddenly fallen ill. According to the reports, an earlier planned dinner for members of the just-concluded 2014 National Conference on Thursday had to be cancelled because of the sudden illness of the President.

How 24-yr-old Footballer dies after being hit in the head by object thrown by fan after match!

24 year old Cameroonian striker Albert Ebossé Bodjongo was killed Saturday Aug. 23rd, after being struck in the head by an object thrown from the stands by an angry fan after his team lost 2-1 in a home defeat during an Algerian league game.

Albert and his team mates were leaving the field at the end of a match between his club JS Kabylie and USM Alger in Tizi Ouzou, when an angry fan threw what is believed to be a rock. Albert, who had scored the sole JSK goal, died a few hours later in the hospital. He was 24. Continue...
