Liberia desperately hunting for 17 ebola patients who fled quarantine

Liberia is desperately searching for 17 Ebola patients who fled after an attack on a quarantine centre in the capital Monrovia. On Saturday,youths wielding clubs and sticks attacked a medical facility set up to isolate Ebola victims. They chanted "there is no ebola" as they carted away equipment and personal effects of patients .They said Ebola is a myth....

 Despite the search,they are yet to find any of the missing victims.They are now considering sealing off the entire area which houses over 75 thousand houses. Information Minister Lewis Brown said:

"All those hooligans who looted the centre are now probable carriers of the disease.... They took mattresses and bedding that were soaked with fluids from the patients. To quarantine the area could be one of the solutions."  Continue...

Pope Francis suggested on Monday Aug. 18th that he might one day resign the papacy like his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI did last year, which would make him the second consecutive Pope to do so after almost 600 years. He said this yesterday while speaking with reporters on his way back to Rome after his state visit to South Korea.

"Some theologians may say this is not right, but I think this way. Let us think about what [Benedict XVI] said, "I have gotten old, I do not have the strength", it was a beautiful gesture of nobility, of humility and courage. But you could say to me, if you at some time felt you could not go forward, I would do the same."

A bride was doused with alcohol and set on fire by her new husband after she slept with an ex-lover on her wedding night, police say.

UN To Send More Aids To Victims In Iraq

The United Nations agency for refugees is launching a major aid operation to reach more than half a million people displaced by fighting in northern Iraq. Supplies will be sent via airlift, road convoys and sea shipments through Turkey, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and Iran. A UN spokesman called it “a very, very significant aid push”.

Militants from Islamic State have captured parts of northern Iraq and are fighting Iraqi and Kurdish forces. The UN’s World Food Programme says it has already served up more than a million meals to displaced people in the past two weeks alone. Tents and other goods will be included in the aid packages to be delivered to refugees to try and tackle the escalating humanitarian crisis. Continue...

Two doctors, a nurse and a patient, infected with Ebola Virus Disease were today discharged from the quarantine unit of the Emergency Operation Centre, EOC, at the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, Lagos. Doctors, students, protest mass sack of resident doctors (Photos)

Medical doctors, students, consultants converged at the Lagos University Teaching hospital, (LUTH), Idi Araba, today to protest the recent sack of 16,000 resident doctors by the Federal Government. The protest was led by the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Dr. Tope Ojo.
