Armed men attack Monrovia Ebola clinic, 29 patients flee

Armed men attacked an Ebola isolation centre in the densely populated Monrovia suburb of Westpoint, Liberia. 29 patients under quarantine reportedly fled the centre. Some reports say the armed men were residents of the area who looted materials used by quarantine patients.

A witness of the attack, Rebecca Wesseh said "They broke down the doors and looted the place. The patients all fled”. The Head of Health Workers Association of Liberia, George Williams has confirmed the sad incident.

Two of the eight robbers who accosted a couple and their three months old baby on their way to their village in Kogi have been arrested and will soon be prosecuted. The robbers were eight in number and after robbing them of their cash and valuables at gunpoint; they tied the husband to a tree and r*ped his wife until she fainted in his presence.

Ribadu’s defection to PDP won’t affect our electoral fortunes - APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC), said on Sunday in Yola that the defection of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not affect the fortunes of the party in Adamawa.

APC Secretary in Adamawa, Alhaji Abdullahi Bakari, who stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the defection would not affect the party’s chances in the Oct.11 governorship bye-election.

Ribadu, former chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was also the presidential candidate of defunct Action Congress of Nigeria for the 2011 Presidential Election. Continue...

According to Premium Times, former EFCC chairman, Nuhu Ribadu, has dumped the APC and has joined the PDP.

Mr. Ribadu was the presidential candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2011 and until his defection yesterday considered one of the presidential prospects of the APC in the 2015 presidential election.

Ebola: Corps Members Abandon Sick Colleague In Ekiti

Ado-Ekiti (NAN) – The Ekiti State Government on Friday described as untrue reports that a youth corps member, who slumped at the orientation camp at Ise/Emure Ekiti, had contracted the dreaded Ebola virus. The state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Olusola Fasuba, said that the corps member (names withheld), who was posted to serve in the state was only suffering from chronic fever.

He advised residents not to mistake common ailments, such as chronic fever, for the dreaded Ebola virus. Fasuba spoke at an awareness forum in Ado-Ekiti, following the speculations in the state that Ebola virus had hit some towns.

Ebola: First Nigerian Patient Discharged From Hospital

The Minister of Health today said that the first Nigerian Ebola patient has been discharged from hospital after the patient was declared fit and free from the virus. The minister also announced that the drug, Nano Silva, which was thought could be used to treat Ebola patients in Nigeria, was said not to have met the requirements of the National Health Research ethics code.
