Spanish Priest Infected With Ebola Flown Back To Madrid Under Heavy Guard (Photos)

A Spanish priest, Missionary Miguel Pajares, 75, was escorted to hospital in Madrid today by a convoy of medics in protective suits after being repatriated on a military plane from Liberia this morning. Nigerian Doctors Suspend 5-week Old Strike Over Ebola

Today being August 7th, Nigeria doctors called off their strike which lasted for 5 weeks. The aim is to help with the fight against the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in Nigeria. In a statement issued by the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, the doctors listed “the incursion of Ebola into Nigeria” as a main reason for suspending the strike.

Just yesterday, the Lagos state government through the Commissioner for Health, Dr Idris Jide, had appealed to striking doctors to call of their strike so as to help contain the spread of the virus.

LASU School Fees: Fashola Orders Reversal To Old Charges

Governor Babatunde Fashola has directed that the controversial fee hike at Lagos State University, LASU, be reversed to the old charge. Fashola stated this on Thursday at the convocation programme of the university. He said the fees would now be returned to the old charges, in order to carry everybody along.

The Lagos State Government had, in 2011, increased the fees from N25,000 to N198,000 for humanities and education, while medical students were to pay N350, 000. Students and lecturers protested. Continue...

Edward Osim Opens Up On Why he married President Jonathan's Daughter

Godswill Osim Edward who got married to President Jonathan's daughter Faith Sakwe on April 12th in Abuja, finally opens up on why he married her. Speaking with Ovation magazine, Edward said:
"What struck me was the humility of her parents, especially her dad. Both of them do not despise people and do not judge you based on your background. When I got to know her background, then I realized that indeed she was from a good home for her to have kept a low profile in school. I could see that she was indeed a replica of her parents. Relatives Of Ebola Victims Left Their Love Once To Rot In The Street

It is becoming worst each day as relatives of Ebola victims have started dumping infected bodies of their loved ones in the streets of Monrovia, Liberia for fear of catching the deadly disease, defying government order to leave the relatives at home. Liberia's Information Minister, Lewis Brown, told Reuters that this act is putting more people at risk
"They are removing the bodies from their homes and are putting them out in the street. They're exposing themselves to the risk of being contaminated. We're asking people to please leave the bodies in their homes and we'll pick them up.
Usually when a relative is found to be infected with the Ebola virus, government quarantines the rest of the family. Minus catching the disease, this is another reason relatives are dumping bodies in the street, to avoid facing quarantine, and having their homes decontaminated. Continue to see more photos...

Obama Says It's Too early to send Ebola drug to Africa

US President, Barack Obama said yesterday August 6th that it's too early to send the unapproved experimental drug, Zmapp serum to Africa where the outbreak of the Ebola virus has recorded more deaths and threatens human existence.

Zmapp serum has proven to be effective in treating Ebola cases as two American doctor infected with the virus in Liberia are currently being treated in the US and are said to have improved after the use of the drug.

According to AFP, President Obama suggested that affected African countries should focus more on building strong public infrastructures. Continue...

This Arrested Boko Haram Man Said He Butcher Humans Within 2 Minutes

Chief Butcher of the Boko Haram sect, Zakari Mohammed Ardo, on Wednesday gave a chilling description of how the terrorist group used to slaughter people they capture, saying it only takes him two minutes to butcher victims and enemies condemned to death.

Zakari Ardo, who was thought to have escaped from Police custody, said the group’s butchering committee is made up of five persons of which he is the chairman, pointing out that the other members will hold down the already tired victim while he cuts off the head...

Speaking through an interpreter in Kanuri, the ‘Chief Butcher’ who claims to be 30 years old and from Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State, said: “I joined the Boko Haaram group two years ago. Before I was arrested, I have slaughtered five people.” Continue...

FG Declares Ebola Outbreak ‘National Emergency’

The Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, on Wednesday described the Ebola outbreak in the country as a “national emergency”. Mr. Chukwu made the statement at an emergency meeting convened by the House of Representatives Committee on Health over the Ebola outbreak in Abuja. He said that out of six Nigerians diagnosed with Ebola virus, one had died on Tuesday, adding that the other five patients were receiving treatment. The minister said that everyone in the world now was at risk, adding that the experience of Nigeria had opened the “eyes” of the world to the reality of Ebola.

Mr. Chukwu faulted a report on the curative powers of Bitter Kola on Ebola. According to him, there was no empirical evidence to show that bitter kola will prevent or cure Ebola. Commenting on the issue, the Project Director, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Abdulsalami Nasidi, disclosed that 70 Nigerians were currently under surveillance for the disease. Continue...
