Really?? Ebola Virus Can Be Cured By Bitter Kola - Research

A plant has been found to halt the deadly Ebola virus in its tracks in laboratory tests, scientists have said.
They used a compound from Garcinia kola, a plant commonly eaten in West Africa. Compounds from the plant have also proved effective against some strains of flu.

If the anti-Ebola compound proves successful in animal and human trials, it will be the first medicine to successfully treat the virus that causes Ebola haemorrhagic fever - an often-fatal condition.
The discovery was announced at the 16th International Botanical Congress in St Louis in the US. Continue...

US Evacuates two Americans sick with Deadly Ebola!

Two US citizens suffering from Ebola in West Africa will be evacuated back to the United States to be cared for in strict isolation in the coming days, the State Department said Friday.

“The safety and security of US citizens is our paramount concern,” deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf said, confirming the State Department was facilitating the medical evacuation with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“Every precaution is being taken to move the patients safely and securely, to provide critical care en route on a non-commercial aircraft and to maintain strict isolation upon arrival in the United States.”

They will be “taken to medical facilities with appropriate isolation and treatment capabilities,” Harf added in her statement. Continue...

Weightlifter Chika Amalaha stripped of her Commonwealth Games Gold

16 year old Nigerian weightlifter Chika Amalaha has been stripped of her Commonwealth Games gold medal after failing her drugs test. She won the 53-kilogram division last week making her the youngest ever female to win a weightlifting title at a Commonwealth Games but unfortunately a few days later, she tested positive for diuretics and masking agents.

Commonwealth Games Federation announced today Friday August 1 that her B sample also showed traces of the substances amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide, both of which are banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency...and said they will look into how she had access to the banned substances.

Ghana bans flights from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia over Ebola concerns

Ghana has officially banned flights from 4 West African countries; Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Nigeria, citing concerns about the rapid spread of the Ebola virus, which has claimed several lives.

Charles Asare, Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company, said the measure was part of a set of emergency management plans officials are rolling out to combat the spread of the virus.

The government there has also implemented strict restrictions on the movement and management of Liberian refugees in camps in the country. Continue..

Comedian Basketmouth has reacted to a report by Vanguard which was published last week where he was estimated to worth so much money. In the publication, the newspaper said the comedian has two choice properties in Lekki worth N350million, N60million home he built for his mum, a Kia Quoris saloon car worth over N12m, a Honda Crosstour, and 3 other brand new SUV’s which cost over N70m plus s a Cherokee SUV, an Hyundai Elantra, and a 2013 customized Opel Insignia. They also said he makes N60million annually from his comedy shows and made one million pounds from his recent Basketmouth Uncensored show which held in four cities in the UK.

Popular Islamic Alfa Caught With New Baby's Placenta

The discovery of a baby placenta in the home of a popular Alfa, identified as Alfa Gani, is causing confusion in the Laduba community, Ogidi area of Ilorin, Kwara State. The discovery was made when some volunteers went round the Laduba community to appeal for financial contributions from residents for the repair of a faulty transformer in the area. It was said that the volunteers perceived offensive odour at Gani’s residence, which they later reported to other members of the community. Curious to know what smelled, some members of the community rushed to the man’s residence and demanded an explanation for the offensive odour oozing from his house.

An eyewitness said Alfa Gani initially accused the community members of intruding into his privacy. He was said to have rushed to the Oloje Police Station to report the community members. Suleiman Abba Is Now Confirmed As The New Inspector General Of Police

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday confirmed AIG Suleiman Abba as the new Inspector‑General of Police.

A statement by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said AIG Abba, currently the Assistant Inspector‑General of Police in charge of Zone 7, comprising Abuja, Kaduna and Niger states, replaces the incumbent Inspector‑General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar, who proceeds on statutory retirement today (Thurday) having completed 35 years in service.

“The incoming Inspector‑General, a lawyer, hails from Jigawa State and is an alumnus of the Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS. Positions previously held by him in the Police include Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, FCT Command, Deputy Force Secretary and Commissioner of Police, Rivers State.
