The Defence Headquarters is still counting the gains of the recent capture of Balmo Forest in Bauchi State from Boko Haram. The military authorities said yesterday that troops uncovered an underground armoury owned by the Islamic sect in the forest which stretches from Bauchi to Jigawa and to the fringes of Sambisa Forest in Borno State.
Recovered from the armoury were more than 80 General Purpose Machine Guns and tubes of Rocket Propelled Grenades(RPGs). Besides,over 20 insurgents arrested from the forest are undergoing interrogation, according to Director of Defence Information, Maj-Gen. Chris Olukolade. Continue...

ASUP suspends 10-month old strike, Polytechnics to resume Tuesday
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, has suspended its 10-month old strike. The strike which started in October 2013 was suspended today Saturday July 12th the National Executive Council of the association. Rising from a meeting this morning in Abuja, the ASUP NEC decided to suspend the strike which has seen polytechnic students stay at home in the last ten months.
The National Publicity Secretary of ASUP, Clement Chirman announced the suspension and also stated that academic activities would resume in all polytechnics nationwide from Tuesday July 15th. The ASUP leadership held what it termed a fruitful meeting with the newly sworn in Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau on Thursday July 10th.

£25m Cocaine uncovered in fake bananas in London! [Photos]
A £25m cocaine haul has been found hidden inside fake plastic bananas brought to the UK from Colombia. Four men have been arrested in Lambeth and Kent after a surveillance operation followed the drugs, which weighed 150kg (23st), to a warehouse. Metropolitan Police said the illicit stash arrived at Dover at 6am on Thursday and was delivered by lorry to a trading estate in Hartlip, Kent. A man was seen unloading the shipment and locking up the warehouse.
Detectives kept watch over the warehouse while others followed three Colombian men to an internet cafe in Stockwell, south London, where they are believed to have picked up email instructions relating to the drugs. The men were arrested as they left the cafe. Continue...
