Acting Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has been confirmed as the new Inspector General of the Nigeria Police. He was confirmed today by President Goodluck Jonathan after a Police Council meeting was held at the Presidential Villa.

55-year old Abba was made the acting IGP on July 31, following the retirement of Mohammed Abubakar, from the Nigerian Police.  big congrats to him.

Atiku Abubakar has slammed President Jonathan saying all APC presidential aspirants are better than him. He made this statement yesterday at the public declaration of Sam Nda-Isaiah, the founder of Leadership newspaper, for the presidential race under APC in Minna, Niger State.

He also disclosed that he and the other four aspirants had agreed to back whoever emerges as the flag bearer during the primary election in other to terminate the Jonathan administration.

“Any of the APC aspirants is better than Jonathan; whoever wins the party primary is better than President Jonathan. We are united. We have resolved to support whoever emerges. We are not fighting each other, that is why I am here today. Our target is to rescue the country from the misrule of the PDP,” he said.

Missing Air Force Jet Found! Local Fisherman Discover Parts In River Benue

Some local fishermen have reportedly found parts of an aircraft suspected to be the missing Nigeria Air Force’s Alpha Jet (NAF 466) which disappeared on September 12, during routine operations in the northern part of Adamawa State in the River Benue.

According to the local fishermen, they discovered the aircraft at Kwa Ine Village, Demsa Local Government, Adamawa State about 50 Kilometers away from Yola, the state capital, Premium Times reports. One of the fishermen in the area, Audu Vrati said:

“At the time it crashed, the level of water in the river was high occasioned by the rainy season and the fishermen were able to see it now because the volume of water had receded.”

Boko Haram Renames Captured Adamawa Town, Mubi, “City Of Islam”

Boko Haram members who captured Mubi town in Adamawa State has renamed the town as Madinatul Islam, meaning the City of Islam. Here’s how Premium Times reports it;

Contrary to the claim by the Nigerian military that it is on top of the security challenge in the commercial town of Mubi in Adamawa state, the dreaded Boko Haram sect is consolidating its position in the the captured town and has indeed renamed it “Madinatul Islam” meaning the city of Islam.

Aliyu Bala, one of the residents, who could not leave Mubi at the time of the invasion of the town by the insurgents, disclosed this in a telephone chat with journalists. He said the insurgents had taken complete control of the town.

“They mounted check points and surveillance at strategic locations, brandishing riffles but asking us not to panic or run away,” Mr. Bala said.

West Africa sets 2020 as Deadline for the Commencement of 'Single Currency Policy'

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has announced that it has set 2020 as deadline for the commencement of its single currency policy in all ECOWAS region.

The announcement was made in Calabar on Monday by the Director of Strategic Planning, ECOWAS Commission, Mr. Essien Abel.

He said, the committee is working assiduously towards ensuring that it succeeds in meeting the target set for the use of the currency in the sub region. According to Essien, the committee would do its work on the modalities for the implementation of the expected monetary policy while the implementation would largely depend on the Heads of State of member country of ECOWAS.

“The 2020 vision seeks to create a borderless, peaceful, prosperous and cohesive region built on good governance. It will also give people the capacity to access and harness its enormous resources through the creation of opportunities for sustainable development and environmental preservation,” Essien said at a meeting on Strategic Planning Framework for 2016 – 2020 in Calabar, Nigeria.

Obasanjo Blames Jonathan, Others For Electricity Problem In Nigeria

President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has blamed his successors for the rot in the power sector. He said the country needed to generate 2,000 megawatts every year for the citizens to enjoy stable electricity.

Obasanjo, after his second coming as a civilian president, handed over to the late former President Umaru Yar’Adua in 2007 while President Goodluck Jonathan assumed office in May, 2010. He said subsequent administrations after his reign as military ruler between 1976 and 1979 did nothing on power generation until he returned in 1999.

According to him, leaders in the country lack the political will to confront national challenges.
He said, “Part of our problems is lack of political will on the part of the leaders. What does a leader understands about development? Any leader worth his salt should know that power is very important.

Courtney Dike has turned down the N1.2m ($7,000) bonus given to each player as bonus for playing in the 2014 FIFA U20 Women World Cup. Courtney who is the younger sister of Super Eagles player, Bright Dike said she valued playing for Nigeria, more than the monetary reward. Head of competition, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Dr. Sanusi Mohammed, made the revelation, saying that the federation was amazed at her refusal.

Sanusi told footballlive.ng that efforts to reach her mother could not even change Courtney's mind as her mother instead supported her daughter's stand not to collect the money. The Federation member said:
