WAEC Screens GCE Candidates For Ebola (See Photo)

Yesterday, officials of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), subjected candidates sitting for the ongoing ‘November/December’ exams to Ebola virus disease screening.

The Head of National Office of WAEC, Mr. Charles Eguridu, who led a team of officials around some examination centres in Lagos, said the essence of the test was to ensure the safety of candidates and their invigilators.

The council extended the gesture, which he described as WAEC’s corporate social responsibility, to Ebola prone-states such as Lagos, Rivers and Enugu as well Cross River, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

LUTH Professor claims ‘Ewedu Soup’ can cure Ebola!

As the world seeks to find a permanent cure for the deadly Ebola virus disease, Prof Adebukola Adefule Oshitelu, professor of ophthalmology at the Lagos State Teaching hospital, LUTH, has claimed that ‘Genus Corchorus’, better known as ‘Ewedu’ is capable of curing Ebola. Speaking at the ’2014 African Traditional Medicine’ event organised by NAFDAC at Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday, 4 September, Oshitelu said Ewedu has strong qualities to end the virus.

The programme which was arranged for Traditional Medicine Practitioners and Conventional Medicine Practitioners was in response for an urgent need of cooperation between the two health bodies in order to enhance better and reliable healthcare delivery system. Continue...

"I wasn't hired by Nigerian Govt" - Hostage Negotiator Stephen Davis

Australian hostage negotiator Stephen Davis who has been widely described as a man hired by the Nigerian government to negotiate with Boko Haram in an effort to help free the Chibok girls, has allegedly said he was not in Nigeria (for four months) at the request of the federal government.

In an interview with Soni Daniel, which was published on Vanguard today, Stephen allegedly said he was never engaged by the Nigerian government to dialogue with the sect.

"I was not engaged by the Federal Government of Nigeria, any state government or any other party. I went to Nigeria in late April in an effort to facilitate a handover of the Chibok captives after discussing such a possibility with former commanders of JAS (Jama’atu Ahlul Sunnah Lih Da’awa wal Jihad otherwise known as JAS) and others close to Boko Haram. New report claims adultery is not Anita Oyakhilome’s ground for divorce

There were reports last week that pastor Anita Oyakhilome, the wife of Christ Embassy Head Pastor Chris Oyakhilome is seeking to divorce him on the grounds of 'adultery' & ‘unreasonable behaviour’ but a new report is claiming this is not true.

According to ThisDay, who said they have a copy of the court papers for the divorce process filed at the Principal Registry of the Family Division (PRFD) of the High Court of Justice, Anita filed for divorce on the ground that 'the marriage has broken down irretrievably.'

In her statement of case in support of petition at PRFD with number FD14001650, Pastor Anita however, accused her husband of having inappropriate relationship with some of his female staff members.

Vice Chairman of Sun Newspapers Dimgba Igwe Passes Away

Dimgba Igwe, Vice Chairman of the Sun Newspapers, passed away on Saturday morning in Lagos, after he sustained injuries from an accident. He was reportedly knocked down by a vehicle while he was jogging around his residence located in Okota, Vanguard reports. Immediately after the accident occurred, Igwe was rushed to the hospital where surgery was conducted, but unfortunately; he died afterwards. He was 58 years old.

Igwe alongside Mike Awoyinfa, masterminded the founding of the Sun Newspaper and the Weekend Concord newspaper. He was also Assistant General overseer of Evangel Pentecostal Church, Lagos. Our condolences go out to his family and loved ones. R.I.P
